Chewing celery all day amps up the metabolism too, plus it's great for you. I think I have a fast metabolism. I have been fat. Not "Hey, look at that fat guy" fat, just over my own limit by quite a bit. But I lie around a lot, don't walk much, eat a lot of junk (along with the really healthy stuff I make), and I'm guessing most people who lived as I do would weigh more.. So I'm guessing I have a good metabolism. Or slow moving cancer that has not yet fully made its mark.

I eat meat. I don't eat a lot of hard to chew raw type veggies as I am missing 6 teeth plus the 4 wisdom teeth that really don't count. I eat a lot of veggies, but mixed into soups and stews and salads along with chicken or beef or some other animal protein, something to laugh at while eating the meal. Not so much fun to eat a carrot and laugh at it, much more fun to eat meat and imagine the once living creature before it became your food. Love it.

I live on that kind of stuff. I love a good charred steak, medium rare, baked potato, the usual meat and potatoes thing - but it requires daily cooking and it also greases up the joint. I am a prepper in the kitchen, sort of picked it up on my own over the years to save time back when I drove cab, but as with most things it too has turned into a chore. I make the basic stuff - stuff that needs to be cooked - spaghetti, potatoes, what the carb will be for the week - along with some poached chicken breasts. The rest is mostly raw stuff but to just the right size so it cooks down in the microwave along with the already cooked stuff which is not overcooked in only 3 minutes. I am into expediency and low maintenance as well as good taste with cost in mind as well. Soups and stews are not only healthy as a rule, they are easy to learn how to cook. I like the prep style because each day you can try something new in the basis dish to see how it works. If you don't like it, don't use it again. And this way, prepping the main stuff and adding other stuff daily, you get to experiment without worrying about destroying the entire week's output. YOU need more soups and stews. You have time now, Mr. Retirement. Get with the program - the kitchen awaits.

Yes, the benefits of the horse and the car can be discussed or debated at length. With a car you will always have a place to sleep, even if the engine conks out. If the car runs it can be used for all sorts of under the counter jobs. But the horse has it's advantages as well. As you say, if it dies you can eat it. Or carve out it's guts and let it sit in the noon day sun for a few weeks till it dries out and can be used as a small tent.
