I started at 0.99 or earlier, then decided it was worth paying for, even
before the 1.0 release. I guess that dates me on usenet somewhat. I'm
still a paid user up to the latest version, 8, IIRC. Sadly, they don't
have a version for Mac or Linux and I ceased using Windows some time
ago. I used to used Agent for backing up and archiving all my mail - 20+
years of it. Still have it all on my last remaining Windows computer.

What I liked about Agent was that it worked in a logical manner, at
least according to my way of thinking. I doubt I did more than scratch
at the surface of the feature list. I would still be using Agent were
there a Mac or Linux version available.

Betamax LOL. Haven't heard that in a while.
I'm getting 15 ATSC 3.0 broadcast channels here, five of them are DRM encrypted.
The days of recording from the tv are nearing the end.

You know, our fondness for, and loyalty to, and our defending it when
someone else criticizes our favorite newsreader, or web browswer, or
make of car is a little like those who are loyal to the Republicans or
Democrats, to trump or Biden. Of course Forte Agent has never raped a
woman or tried to destroy the internet. My loyalty would disappear if
it did that.

Never had Betamax but for sure I have my VHS player, with an A-B switch
on the shelf next to my bed to choose between it and the DVD-R/tv tuner.
Then the feed goes to every tv in the house, the bedroom, office, the
bathroom with the bathtub, the living room, kitchen, basement 'club'
room, laundry room/shop, and attic (though I've never watched tv in the
attic iirc, but once I would have if it had been set up by then). So I
can play something and not be tied to one room. Plus since the
mechanical parts in vcrs wear out, I have a couple spare vcrs people
were giving away when people were using videotapes less to use when the
current one breaks. (Of course they are getting old even when not being
used, so I don't know what will happen in the long run.)

Balderdash. The "rn" family of command-line newsreaders is clearly
superior. As is the One True Text Editor: vi

I am sure your Forte Agent had never "grabbed 'em by the pussy" either.

Real vi is too primitive for me. The improved version most definitely is
improved.

I do have slrn on my Fedora box but I like the creature comforts of Pan.

These days you have to grab them by the pussy to make sure it really is a
pussy. One doesn't want any 'The Crying Game' style surprises.

But you like NOTHING so much as hearing yourself talking "so beautifully",
full of self-admiration. You pathological bigmouth just can't hide it! LMAO

More of the resident senile gossip's absolutely idiotic endless blather
about herself:
"My family and I traveled cross country in '52, going out on the northern
route and returning mostly on Rt 66. We also traveled quite a bit as the
interstates were being built. It might have been slower but it was a lot
more interesting. Even now I prefer what William Least Heat-Moon called
the blue highways but it's difficult. Around here there are remnants of
the Mullan Road as frontage roads but I-90 was laid over most of it so
there is no continuous route. So far 93 hasn't been destroyed."

Is this pathological chatterbox for real? LMAO

Self-admiring lowbrowwoman telling everyone yet another "thrilling" story
about her great life:
"In a role reversal my mother taught her father to drive. She was in the
back seat when he took his first test, trying a little telepathy: "release
the handbrake. release the handbrake'. He didn't, stalled the engine and
failed. The next time went better."
