It is October and we have quite a TREAT for our members. A collection of Forrest Tucker movies that even a non-fan of Mr Tucker will enjoy. He had quite a career and is one of the most over looked (but never under rated) stars of his or anyone's time.

Oh God I feel so guilty forgetting about Forrest. I am proud of the many retrospectives for many of our golden age heroes, but never mentioned Forrest. My only excuse, if I need one, is that there are simply too many golden era cinema icons to remember them all. Sometime we forget even the best of the rest. Forrest stood tall. How about Keenan Wynn? Haven't seen a retrospective on him yet. I wouldn't rate him as high as Forrest, but Keenan was part of an era we cannot allow our younger generations to ever forget. Keep up the good work, Ollie. See you at the next meeting.

I do not think Keenan ever 'starred' in a movie. I would be surprised if he ever got second billing. He was a character type. Today he would be huge compared to the white trash in the movies.

I love F Troop. I do hope they play some episodes during the marathon.

I think he was related to Ed Wynn. I can find out easy enough. I do know I did not care for the guy. When I was a kid I thought he was ok, but when I got older I was able to see him for what he was - a sub mediocre no talent in all directions. Saw him on a repeat Hitchcock the other night where he played an underwater escape artist who dies during a performance in a big lake after his wife rigged his coffin to not open. Him and Forrest Tucker came around at the same time. At the moment I'd take Tucker over Wynn. But things change. Who knows, tomorrow I might wake up and suddenly Keenan is my favorite greatest actor of all time.

I never got into F Troop. An age thing I guess, plus there were periods in my life - and probably the lives of most people - when I just didn't care about TV at all, I had things to do. I thought some of the characters were good. I get MeTv. It's my favorite channel. Lots of old stuff on it, some good, some not so good. Another show that never made me laugh or remember an episode as special is Hogan's Heroes. But the characters are good. The actors were good in their roles.

I was in my prime TV years when F Troop was on. As a kid the TV was king in my world. I took the shows seriously. I watched which networks had the best shows. They each had their winners and genres. ABC had drama like man from Uncle and Time Tunnel, Rat patrol, combat type shows. NBC had sexy comedy like Get Smart and Dream of Jeanie and CBS had hillbilly shows. It was the golden showers of TV.

Yes, so when you were deep into the trending shit of that time, some of which I liked, I was mostly out of watching TV and into the poolroom. But those shows are on today, almost all the ones you mentioned, on MeTv. Some I did not like even then and still don't. Others I can watch reruns and I'm good with it. I never knock what people liked as a kid, a teenager or even a young adult. But what they like later - like when they're over 30, let's say - well in that if it's something I think sucks I'm case I'm afraid I'm going to have to label them for what they are, a bunch of stupid idiots. "I Dream of Jeanie" is on early in the morning and I never watch it because it bores me now just as it did when I was a kid, except for maybe the opening which I'd put on mainly for my best friend at the time - my cock.

Every red-blooded boy liked "I Dream of Jeannie". Those revealing
outfits were meant to titillate. Same with Gilligan's Island, with those
two girls running about in little outfits trying to get in Gilligan's
pants. Daisy Dukes in "Dukes of Hazzard" was another one stimulating
teen-age boy hormones. I am nostalgic for the '3 Stooges', who don't
stimulate any of my testosterone but do get me back in the spirit of
watching stupid shit that requires no brains on my part.

Mindless and stupid are always good except when it comes to your doctor.

Once I got into my teens TV was not in the forefront of 'tainment. I would watch the rock and roll acts if they were on. It was also the beginning of SNL but I did not watch it much either.

Funny you should say that because I found the girls used on the 3 Stooges were in every way sexier and more mature than the ones you mentioned from TV.. But your point is well taken and obvious. Women would not be as attractive as they think they are if it were not for the cock. To a young human male in the peak noments of wild hormonal goo-gooism, even the face of Eve Arden could stand out as something special, capaable of launching the youngsters cock rocket into the outer strata of goo goo ga ga lovemanship.

I watched SNL but it didn't take me long to start seeing it for what it was.. Some pretty pathetic humor there. Very political. Maybe not as much as now, but they helped get it going. They were the establishment's version of anti establishment people. They'd bring on rock groups to appeal to the young. The hip. The in crowd. They'd put down the President. Ewww, how gutsy! But their humor sucked - the land sharks, the Loud family, the wild and crazy guys from Czechoslovakia - man, that stuff sucked. It sucked then and it sucks now. I know. Why? Because "I was there, man!"

Hey Ollie, seriously, didn't you find the women on the 3 Stooges pretty sexy? Of course you put any hunk of female flesh in front of those guys it's going to look pretty good. No but really, the women they used for those roles were pretty good. Same with all those comedy teams, the bit players were outstanding. In Laurel and Hardy I really liked the guys who would hire the boys to do a job and they'd mess it up over and over again and the guy would keep giving them chances, getting frustrated, red in the face - I could see it even in b&w. Anyway, the women in some of those shows were more mature looking, maybe on the basis of how they were dressed. Whatever, I liked the way they looked, most of the time.

Burlesque style humor with beautiful women. I have noticed that. I hear Larry was the cocksman of the trio. Until Tiny joined. Tiny was the inside joke. He was huge in the pants.

I don't remember Tiny? Was that Joe Besser? I saw Besser in some non-Stooge things and he wasn't bad. At least he was himself, same character every time. I remember various editions of the Stooges, I think all of them on the basis of trying to replace Curly and then Curly's replacements.

Shemp and Moe and maybe Curly were related. Larry Fine was not. Their art becomes more relevant every day. They were ahead of their time yet part of their time.

The original Stooges was 'Ted Healy and the Stooges'. They dropped Healy
from the act to become the 3 Stooges. Originally Shemp, Moe and Larry.
Curly replaced Shemp, who years later replaced Curly. Joe Besser and Joe
DeRita followed. What they did was indeed an art. I'd like to see actors
such as Robert DeNiro, Carrot Top, and the guy from the Progressive
commercial try a routine. I'll bet they would be in awe of the of what
they witness.

Ok ok, you two - I get it, the Stooges were good, at times - but let's not overdo it. They are MeTv regularly. As I result I get to see various versions of the trio. I think they really sucked when they got older. And it seemed they got older fast. Even after Curly died, the shriveled up, nearly non existent souls of Moe and Larry stumbled along into a world that was not ready for them in prime time. I suppose in the world of TV the rerun is King of the Hill. Even if it's something I think sucked at the time, and even if I still think it sucks, if it makes it to RerunVille, it has come a long way and deserved our applause. Now all, down on our knees to pay homage to the Stooges.

The two greatest comedy shows in television history are 'The
Honeymooners' and 'The 3 Stooges'. Need I mention that the 4 main '3
Stooges' were Jewish? This is important because back in 1974, shortly
before he died, Louis Feinberg (aka Larry Fine) employed Mama as his
housekeeper. There was always a rumor I've been told that there was more
between Mama and Larry than just housekeeper/employer. Sarah was born in
1975 and had a striking resemblence to both Mama and Larry. Truthfully,
Sarah never looked anything like Papa. As a child, Sarah was always the
one who slapped, poked or hit someone with an object. She was the stooge
in our household.

Same thing happened in the Schwetzenigger household. https://chaturbate.com/ariawyn/

Gee, thanks for the inside info. I never knew Larry Fine was Jewish. I never suspected Moe and Curly and Shemp Howard were Jewish. I thought they were English because of the English actor Leslie Howard (who, now that I think of it, was probably a Jew too).

So what's the topic here, Judith - 'the Stooges' or 'jewishness' once again? It can be looked at a variety of ways. It could be said by zionistic self-alienated loners with nothing to cling to but their heritage that the Stooges were naturally funny because they were Jewish. On the other hand it could be said there were other trios just as funny, maybe more so, who were denied a crack at cinema stardom because they weren't Jewish. Depends on how you look at it. I'm sick of hearing about people everyone likes, "By the way, did you know he was Jewish?", but if it's someone everybody hates they keep it on the QT. I didn't like devoting all that time to talking about the Stooges in the first place, even though I do like them at times. But I really don't like it now that you have once again forced Jewishness into the conversation. This time you did it on your own, without the help of Bozo. You are improving and will soon be able to strike out on your own in Jew recruiting business. But I am proud of you this time. I mean having the guts to do it on your own without Bozo, I have to hand it to you - you're getting ballsy. You got moxie kid.

"He hasn't got a lick of talent but I'm going to give him a shot anyway. Why? Because he's got moxie, that's why." Sid to Sy - circa 1929, Hollywood Ca.

I really hate statements such as the one above that are made with such thundering finality, as if they cannot ever be challenged by anyone. I liked the Honeymooners and in fact watch it once a week if I'm at home when it comes on, Sunday night. But THE greatest of all time? How can anyone say that about any comedy show? Matter of fact I found "Breaking Bad", which was not billed as comedy, to be the funniest TV show of the past 30 years, at least. But for you to just come on and say something like it's written in stone and can never be refuted, I hate that kind of attitude. It turns me off. It makes me angry. It makes me want to kill. I saw Gleason on Carson the other night. He was asked how come he ended the Honeymooners earlier than most expected and he said it was because the stories were getting harder and harder to come by and it would be best to quit while ahead. Now of course he could have been saying that after the fact just to look like some kind of genius, because after all Gleason did have quite the ego. But I think he was telling the truth. They were running out of stories, about to slip over the edge into absolute mediocrity from which there is no return ever.

I use to think of the 3 stooges as a dumb version of the Marx Brothers. But they are not the same. Now would Laurel and Hardy be closer to a Abbot and Costello? See this is the kind of discussions we need in public schools.
