I was referring more to pure science rather than cherry picked studies to prove a point.
So for example if I toss a ball into the air I know it will come down and I can calculate the
velocity, time and so forth.
If I'm studying human behavior, 10 different psychologists will have 10 different theories on why a
particular person behaves a certain way.

The most important aspect of this is that the GOP, by allying with the Moral Majority and
pushing hard on social issues, has coopted the working class to vote against it's own
interests. Cutting taxes for the rich is not going to help the working man. Busting the
unions thereby taking away any power the working man might have against the mighty
corporation isn't going to help him either.

Running up massive debt that is sooner or later got to be paid back doesn't help
*anybody*.

Now to a bit of usually not discussed reality. The USD is a global currency, known as a
"reserve" currency. There are nations that back their own currency with vaults full of
dollars. The first domino to fall in the 1997 Asian crisis fell when it was discovered
that Thailand didn't have as many dollars in storage as they'd claimed they had.

But how do nations get these dollars? By selling things for dollars, preferably with
access to American markets. This explains the US trade deficits. We send out our dollars
so other nations have them to conduct their trade in. It also explains debt. The
national debt is just a side effect of the creation of dollars to be distributed across
the planet.

Folks may not realize it but having a standardized global currency supports trade and
peaceful relations. It's also part of our defense strategy. The ignorant won't believe
it but defense is more than guns. It's shipping your car industry off to another country
so that it can become rich and therefore a more powerful and grateful ally. It's telling
a major coconut producer that you're going to allow them to sell coconuts in America
without a tariff in exchange for their vote at the UN.

Japan buys more of our debt than anybody. China is second. But these debt purchases get
them unrestricted access to American markets. They earn dollars, with which they can buy
anything, anywhere, by selling us stuff *and* by earning interest on the debt they buy
from us.

This explains why Saddam was taken out in the 2000s and why the Europeans wouldn't help us
do it, but the Saudis did. He left the petrodollar and switched to euros for oil.

That may be true. The choices are infinite ... from dictator to

Our plan at the beginning was divided and only compromise would be
possible. Too many seem to want "their choice of dictator" at the
moment. Either is not not my idea of ideal. Choose the lesser evil.

Controlled capitalism is the best. We have too many working for the

I agree that sounds about right (correct).

My grief is that we have lost too much "freedom". I would like to be
"most" free while I am in my own home ... and then in my own
neighborhood ... then town/city/county ... and then STATE!

Too much being done by the federal government ... that entity cannot do
EVERYTHING ... it should stick to only what it was supposed to do ... as
stated in the Constitution. Most of us can get by without feds being in
charge of EVERYTHING.

Seems to me we have all the freedom in our homes that we can use. More than we used to.

Freedom is relative and has two faces - freedom from and freedom to.

That said, government can tend to overreact as a response to the over reaction of
citizens. Baby walkers, for example, which used to be ubiquitous, have been banned by
several countries.

In fact, this newsgroup seems little more than lots of egos vying
to be king of the newsgroup.

People addressing that root cause of so much misery and woe would
yield far more socially beneficial results than people avoiding that

to appear on others' screens could possibly accomplish meaningful
change at the society level.
