As I told you, I've been lying in bed a lot - and I'm not complaining. Today was my first foray into the real world - or is the fake one - in 10 days.. I went on foot to 3 different markets. I noticed less people wearing masks. Then in the produce section I heard a woman telling a worker she sure is glad the mask mandate is over. I did not know it because I don't watch the news on TV and I haven't seen a paper in over a week. Plus I don't care.

They keep talking about reaching herd immunity. It's possible because we're already in the herd mentality stage big time. They put the masks on when they were told to do so. Now they're removing them in bunches because the official word is in. "You may remove your mask." Some of those mask tan lines really turn me on.

Anyway, I'm serious - and I admit it - when I heard the woman say the mask mandate is over I wanted to wear it forever. I told her and the grocer the same thing. "Makes me want to wear it now more than ever", I said, and they laughed. But it's true. Why should I remove it now? So I got the paper today - hardly anything worthwhile, not a good day. But I did see an article confirming the woman's report. It was on the front page but it was an editorial because it posed questions - on purpose. The big question concerned people who have not taken the vaccine but will be claiming otherwise so they won't have to wear a mask. That's the new rule, you can go without the mask if you've had the vaccine. Funny stuff. I am serious though - I was just getting used to wearing it and I think I'm going to keep wearing it for some time.

I went out today and made a point to scope out the mask scene. Almost nobody was wearing a mask. I did not care, but it's funny how it happened literally in the span of a day or two. The edict comes down - "You no longer need to wear a mask", and next thing you know it's off. And these are probably the same people who a year ago were demanding others to wear it. Soon they will see people still wearing the mask - people like me who not only grew accustomed to the mask but became addicted to it, especially now that everyone is taking theirs off. I remember hearing it several times from people over the past year: "Man I can't wait till we can take these masks off.." Now they have their wish and I hope they get the virus.

The stats from the get go were odd. The best excuse of all for those who challenged the number of people getting the virus: "Well, more than half of the people who get it don't have symptoms." If that's true then why all the fuss? Just let it roll, it will leave on its own. They have through history, haven't they? Look at cockroaches. It's hard to put them down because they grow a tolerance for everything used to kill them. Had roaches taken a vaccine instead of just dealing with shit as it comes they would never have developed that kind of resilience.

If the virus is phony - not saying it is or it isn't - the stats and graphs would be phony too. But if the graphs are not phony they are interesting at least. They show a flat map of all the countries of the world. The darker they are the more intense the virus infections. In all the graphs I've seen the US was always the darkest. Why? Not only that, second to the US in terms of virus congestion is Europe. It's worldwide but the graphs show some countries almost virus free. I have no theories, just overall lack of trust, but looking at those graphs it kind of looked like American and its so-called allies are taking the brunt of it. Then they come out with a vaccine. What went into creating it? Probably not much. Probably could create a vaccine in a matter of days. Anyway, whatever - I'm not taking the shot, period. I do not wear the mask but carry it with me for the stores. I got in the habit of wearing in places were I was supposed to wear it and I am going to continue wearing it till I decide it's time to take it off, not because the Governor or whomever says it's ok. Hey, I notice we are posting at the same time. I have been on the machine nearly two hours and here we are. My posts are long. Too long. But there are positives to everything. Because it takes me longer to type my long posts you will be able to post 3 or 4 posts to my one so by the time I'm done with just one or two posts the board will be full of Ollie posts crying for respondation.

Women are the ones mostly into the masks. They want the burka. Fine with me. Most women today are fat and never try to look nice. Best they all cover up.

Oh they'll cover up all right. It's either the burka or a beatdown, take your pick. It's incredible that people will send money for washable masks. The commercial about the extra strap so you won't ever lose your mask is the most insane. Like cellphone lanyard or a key chain. Every time I go to Whole Foods I get a free disposable mask at the door. But I don't dispose it right away. I spray it with alcohol and hang it at home. They dry out fast. I read back when this shit first started that rinsing the mask with alcohol will 'ruin the integrity' of the mask. Since I never saw integrity in it anyway I figure what the hell, just strap it on if it makes people feel better. It would not surprise me one bit if soon enough some establishments won't order people to remove their masks or they can't come in. The same fuckers who stood firmly behind the mask from the start will now police it's disuse.

I swear it's the on/off aspect of the mask that bugs me more than the mask itself, the way people wear it only because they're told to. That in itself is bad enough. But then they go out of their way to become mask police. I saw it in action, workers in stores who admitted to me at the start that they only wore it because the job required it. Then later at some point - a bad day, whatever - they start wearing the badge and I can see it on their faces the minute I come through the door of their establishment, that they just can't wait to say, "Hey, where's your mask?", which is why I carry one now to use for establishments. I am serious too - admitting my fragile ego has something to do with it - that now that there are less people wearing the mask I have suddenly developed a taste for wearing it.

How about TV shows going for the realistic and current look by having all actors wearing masks for their parts. Like if the show takes place in an office everyone is wearing a mask. "Wow, this is like so real - it's part of history and we're reflecting it man!" I wonder how these shows will be seen in the future. I can see it as a definite distraction. Imagine if Stalag 17 had been filmed during a pandemic with everyone wearing a mask to reflect the accuracy of the times. How stupid. I don't have a TV guide. I have my own little ritual. I remote through the network channels to see if anything worthwhile is on. Then I hit the sports channels. Almost always I wind up in the 1200s which is where all the antenna stations are. They come over the cable. Anyway, the network shit, that's where I saw a lot of masks being worn on sitcoms and so forth. Really stupid. They probably think it's really cool, that it reflects the accuracy of the times.

It's funny though, sometimes it can be a helpful guide. Like I'm surfing the sports channels and come across a boxing match. I want to know right away if it's an old one, a replay, or if it's more current. The way to tell is to look at the corner guys and the audience. If I see no masks I know it's an old fight. If I see masks I go, "Alright, this could be happening right now." Even Bozo has cited unintended positives of the mask. Hiding zits and so forth. I understand because I believe it can also be good for reining in bad breath.

Most network shows - which I do not watch as a rule - are about cops or doctors or lawyers. There are offshoots of course - The FBI, the CIA, whatever. The actors are interchangeable and very formulaic. I hate that shit. All of it. The need for a positive image seems to be at it's height today. Not just with TV but with everything and everybody. Everyone trying to look more evolved and advanced - not stupid and narrow like the generation before. I got the paper today. I made a point of noting - but not counting - the number of different topics. There were not many. The paper today was full of old shit from the so-called civil rights era. It started on the front page and continued through the paper. A bunch of "Scholars of Color" had gathered to share the "true history" of their time. That is fine. Clutching at straws. I actually avoid the news. I want rumor, conspiracy theory, outright lies. Way more entertaining and accurate.

Lies so obvious they can't possibly be sinister. Like a guy running for office slandering himself before others get a chance to do it. Outright lies are good. So is fiction. There is truth in fiction. I don't think there's ever been a headline throughout history that had we not seen it our lives would have been impacted. Same goes for all the news. They drag you out of a cave after 30 years, what's the first thing you're going to do - rush out to buy 30 years of back issue newspapers? We don't need the news. Whoever runs it needs us. He seems cool as can be. Cucumber cool.. But inside he is seething, ready to explode - a walking eggshell. Not a bad idea though. Along with The Ten Most Beautiful celebs this year we can go with The Ten Coolest People on Earth. Lots of unknowns, some with great back stories about what makes them cool. These cool people need to be known. Cool down man, we're working on it.

It is true that we who are cool usually don't know it. Sometimes we know it and pretend otherwise. We are generally a humble lot. As humans we are not all alike. Some are crazy cool and they know it. Others as you say do not know it. But the coolest of the cool usually know they are cool and choose not to show it. That takes extra coolness. Yes, I may have mentioned being cool once or twice, but you have to admit that as a rule I don't go around bragging about it. So yes, I am not only cool but one of the coolest. The first time I hit the Comedy Store stage with the saxophone I used my own name. The next time I went up the owner Sammy Shore introduced me as "Mr.. Cool." The next time he introduced me as "Mr. Cool - Tommy Conrad." I stuck with the name from there out. But I did not do the act often as it bored me. I was there mainly to drink. I will also admit I was not capable of adding to the act. Or more accurately capable of working to improve the act. Anyway, I was Mr. Cool for a while there. It was cool.

I am flashing on so much of my past these days it is eerie. Maybe my brain is too free of needing to concentrate on any one thing now. I drift along. Observing. Watching. I am seeing things differently. Will it make sense? I doubt it.

Soon you will know it inside out, you will see firsthand the evolution of retirement. Already you are learning stuff I learned through the process of retirement. Soon you will know everything and thoughts of suicide will pervade your brain as you long for the good old days of a work routine to keep you from losing your mind.
