Just installed i2pd because this guy from youtube -- Mental Outlaw -- said it's so much fun and all that... Right... ... So I figured, at least I'll try Syndie, that sounds at least useful in current climate of "BigTech censorship", right?

Ok. Installed Java, no errors. Installed Syndie, no errors.

What am I doing wrong?

That's great that you got it all up and running, and are able to access sites.

Ok. Installed Java, no errors. Installed Syndie, no errors.

You're probably not doing anything wrong, those are the same results I get with Syndie when I try. Early on years ago, some of them worked but the content was just test posts. For the past few years, they all just fail. Syndie is dead, it has a terrible interface and I don't believe anyone is left using it.

The i2p team seems set on holding on to stuff like that and showing no interest in newer stuff, but sites should work ok for you. Even that is hit or miss, but they do work. If you posted using i2p it shows that it does work.

i2p needs more cool toys but getting anything listed is pretty much impossible. I don't know the mindset but it seems to be a really closed team for letting new things in.

What specifically did the youtube guy say was cool about i2p? I'd be curious to hear.

Thanks for replying. The guy was just talking in general, what caught my attention was i2pd written in C++ (or something) that doesn't require java. I tried java i2p years ago and couldn't make it work no matter what. This i2pd worked just fine right off the bat. I don't mind the early web feels that i2p has, it's fine with me. I thought Syndie is really cool idea, although it looks pretty bad, the icons are awful. It would be better off without them, just plain text menus.
I'll keep trying to run this thing, I guess it's going to be like waiting for outer space signal.

I tried to get Syndie to work many times and maybe it does work, just nobody is there?

It's a great idea but trying to get set up to share something, I tried nntp, and I couldn't get it to do anything.

I guess it's going to be like waiting for outer space signal.

lol

OP here,

I've managed to sync syndie with syndie.echelon.i2p

Comes out the address in settings had this '?i2paddresshelper=' gibberish added, and after removing it (leaving just "syndie.echelon.i2p") I was able to fetch index, but not able to fetch most of the messages (socket closed / 429 Denied / 503 Service Unavailable / Read key unknown / etc.)

Got 3 of Surveillance blog/forum in first attempt.

I was also able to set up my own archive, and it sort of worked -- I was able to fetch index successfuly, not sure if it's fully working I'm quite satisfied that I was able to get this thing working, even in this limited capacity. I'm getting excited.

As some of you might know, syndie has entered into Debian.

The page says it has been removed, actually:

I'm getting excited

About the brilliant idea behind syndie ? Or the non-working implementation ?

Yes, that was the point of the post. The plans for Syndie never materialized.

I'm getting excited

It is a great idea and maybe behind the interface it might work.
