A big article in today's paper about the similarity of AIDS and COVID, naturally leaning toward AIDS being more tragic because COVID was attacked quicker and nobody cared  about AIDS because it was a gay disease.  I did not read the whole article.
Here's something from near the end of the article  that made me laugh.  I'll scan these articles quickly, sometimes reading the last few paragraphs first.  Here it is.

I found that last comment more meaningful than any info about any disease.  I was struck by the numbers. This guy had 220 friends who died from AIDS, not to mention who knows how many who didn't.  That's an awful lot of friends. My first thought was, "Anybody with that many friends deserves none."
 
I enjoy it when I'm reading an article and wind up getting more from it than the author's intended purpose.

A lot of people have too many friends. Forget friends.  Just knowing 220 people by name is enough to prove the guy is/was a greedy ladder climbing son of a bitch who is/was lucky to be alive.

Gays seem to be promiscuous. There rate of STDs is likely high as a group.. When you can fuck a bung hole the sky is the limit.

Even in my 60s and 70s I will see them eyeballing me. They have sex on the brain, most of them. Maybe it's to make up for lost time but I don't think so. Some guys wouldn't take it, they'd start throwing punches right away. But I think guys in general can be more tolerant than women about dealing with such intrusions, not as willing as women to playing the victim all the time (although I'm sure they would if society would let them). Women can scream "Get away from me" at an annoying guy in a restaurant and every male in sight becomes an instant hero. Can a man under the same assault get such help? Probably not. Yes, I have been hit on by many gays and I did not like it when it just went on and on. But the thing about the cab is, even if the ride is long, it's probably not the only one of the night. It's like watching a tv channel and not wanting to change it just because a show you don't care for comes on. It's just something to put up with for a short time.. Hah hah, this reminds me of when women get angry and say, "Oh, if only I were a man", as if that in itself is enough. With you, instead of, "If only I were a man", it's, "If only I were working again." Yep, "If only I were working again you better believe I'd let them know a thing or two." I see you going back to work for just to make one demand after another till they have to cut you loose. But in the process of going back you find your fellow workers easier to take than before, knowing you can quit at anytime. So you decide to stay. You like it. They give in to all your demands. So many in fact you begin to feel guilty about it. You have found the comfort zone. Then one day you are fired and no reason is given. You take it to court and lose. Your lawyer takes it to retrial with you getting a sex change operation beforehand and claiming you were fired on the basis of trans gender discrimination. You win the case. Millions of dollars. Plus the right to go back to work at the company's highest position. You go back for one day, call a meeting for the next morning, and announce to all that are quitting - you have had enough!

I hope not. Everyone has their own stated reason for continuing to work. I understand and believe some of them. Others I think are full of crap. My sister continues to work saying she has no choice, she needs the money for medical stuff only her company's insurance covers. This could be true, but I doubt it. I know she is a victim hound. She volunteers for projects no one else wants. She tells me about it. She is a martyr. Then a week or two later she'll be bitching about something that went wrong with the project and how they fucked her over. It seems she's holding onto the job just to have another thing to bitch about. Anyway, whatever - I'm glad you're out it. I know I'm glad I'm out. But I must admit I never did replace my job with other activities. That is my fault. I suppose if I could work just one or two days a week at something I might do it, but only if I can call the hours and change them when needed. Of course that's not going to happen. And so.................... Oh dear God I am so all alone.

It is her choice. While I would never make the same choice I am not knocking her for it, only a bit irritated that she clings to it yet complains about it all the time. She does that with everything. Everything is a chore, even the stuff she plans as fun, vacations and so forth. She is a martyr. I am not putting her down, it's just what she is. She is a real competitor when it comes to who has suffered the most. Even working from home because of the virus, she was complaining about that. I finally got her to admit it's better than going to the office every day. But it was not easy for her to admit it because I could tell she wanted to hold on to victim status no matter what. As for the meds she claims - perhaps with good reason - that some of the meds she takes do not work in generic form, so she had to use the really expensive versions. You know the type, I'm sure you've met them - always complaining, seeming at times to seek advice, then quickly rejecting the advice with some pre planned excuse. But yes, of course, as much as I hated work - and as much as she may not like it either - I am capable of understanding people not wanting to change things at this stage of their life. Work is her AA when she's not at the meetings. She 'chairs' meetings. I hate that term. Immensely. "So and so will be chairing the meeting this week" - ugh, makes me sick, that expression.

I have chaired a few. It is ok. Had some weird things happen. I am not a good leader so I hate any kind of decision making along those lines. AA has a group conscience angle that is a good cop out.
A few times I got real bossy. Shut people down. Hard to know if you should shut up a total loon. Being a loon does not make it easier.

What a fucking invention. Probably the only means of execution ever invented that has no excuse for existing. The guillotine was touted as quick and painless. Maybe. Maybe not. But at least it's sounds good. Same with gas. Hanging, brutal as it seems, also quicker than most would think. All are brutal in their own way, but most were created with at least the pretense of caring about the comfort of the condemned. Such a pretense is nearly impossible with the Chair. It's hard to imagine the inventor trying to convince anyone the Chair is the most humane way to kill a person. Why not just cut off their arms and legs and toss the torso into a giant room sized frying pan heated without oil to the smoking point? I read in the "History of Torture" - hilarious book - that this was officially the very first torture ever used in civilized times. What kind of statement is that? How the fuck do they know that? I actually struggled with that. I guess I meant "the civilized world" or "recorded history." Surely torture has existed since day one. Funny the way the writer called the limbless torso fry pan execution the first torture ever. I loved that book. It was not just about torture, it also included executions. They were interesting, especially the French revolution and others where aristocrats were lead to the axe man. It was interesting to hear how most died with dignity, asking and paying for a quick swing of the axe. But the funniest parts of the book were when the writer took liberties, as if he were actually there when stuff happened. One chapter was dedicated to Roman Emperors. Many were sadistic (because they had the power to be), but he claimed Caligula was at the top of the list. He mentioned a visit Caligula made to the Isle of Capri where thousands of subjects came out to greet him offering gifts. The writer says one particular fisherman brought Caligula a fish he had just caught and Caligula took it and slapped the guy across his face with it a few times before saying, "Just be glad it was not a crab." It was funny the way the writer tossed that in, like he was there to see and hear it. It was an enjoyable read for a 13 year old.

I have always despised history. But not entirely. Actually, I like history. But as you say, the written type, especially pertaining to military actions and world leaders - who's the good guy, who's the bad? - I have always despised that crap. I remember it now, on one of many trips to the Principal's office in the 10th grade, the final one resulting in me being successfully booted out of school - I remember one one of those trips telling the Principal, "What difference does it make when Benjamin Franklin was born?" I used that phrase to sum up my feelings of history all the way around, history as taught in school. But then when it came to school i tended to dislike all subjects. I have the capacity to enjoy some subjects, but not the schools in which they are taught.

I just got back from the downtown transit center where I go to do dips on a bike rack bar. There were 3 or 4 Negroes down the block across from the transit center barking a bunch of nonsense into microphones. It was like a scene out of the movie "Wise Blood". Ever see that one? A woman wrote it.. Flannery O'Connor. I am not a big reader but I enjoyed some of her stuff. "Wise Blood" was about a bunch of different preachers in one town vying for top spot. He said his people, who he refused to call Blacks or Afro-Americans, are the new chosen people. He would quote different passages and verses from the bible to confirm his statement. The mic sucked too, very loud and cheap. But the guy did have a paint, which seemed mostly to be that he and his people don't really know who they are. I get that. To bolster his stance he dragged Hispanics into it - oppressed by the white man because of their Indian heritage. I have heard all this shit before but today it was quite loud. At least the guy didn't mention Jesus Christ a bunch of times. He quoted the bible but made some comments of his own. I saw him as a bully - a guy who would never shut up if he didn't have to. A guy who, if he could, would trap you in a basement or prison cell and preach to you day and night with no let up. There are all kinds of bullies. Most don't have the guts to be bullies in the traditional sense. That includes me. It is in all of us.

It could backfire. No plan is perfect. It is dangerous to pretend to be someone's ally. Too many people pretending to believe stuff. It's like joining the people you're supposed to be spying on. At first it's an act. Then you grow to like the enemy. Then the enemy turns on you because you are an outsider - "He's not really one of us" - and it's too late to mount a defense. Even if they don't mean it (and they don't), a lot of the white pretend minority supporters will find themselves caught up in their own act like a method actor crawling so deep into a character he can never come out.

They could wind up "Ep-Deaning" themselves
