The term will never stop bugging me. PTSD. I think it's the 'post' part that bugs me most. Like everything was ok when it went down but now all of a sudden back stateside lost and alone in a society they know little about they clamor for payments based on something from the past. As you say, who the fuck couldn't do that? I know in my life I went through as much stress as any asshole combat veteran. And I didn't volunteer. Sure I'm glad to be alive but I don't remember asking for it. I have PTSD to this day from NOT serving in 'Nam. In my 30s people would see me paying for food with food stamps and I could feel there staring right through me. I know what they were thinking: "What's an able bodied guy like that doing with food stamps?" One day I turned around and glared at the guy behind me who I'm sure was thinking the same thing. "Ever hear of a crazy little thing called Vietnam?", I asked.

"Oh, I'm sorry", he said, "I didn't know you had served in 'Nam."

"I didn't", I replied. "I was a draft dodger. The guilt you and others of your type laid on me was so much I lost my job and had to start seeing a psychiatrist, and that's why I get the food stamps - ok, pal?"

Then I turned to the assembly behind him. "Anybody else?", I boomed. "Remember, I have PTSD - the worst kind, the kind you must live with alone. Because of my past you never know how I'm going to act in the future. So do yourselves a big favor and stay out of my way."
