Would you rather live in a democratic or authoritarian country?
Originally Answered: If you had the option of living in a democracy or an authoritarian society, which would you choose and why?
I would choose the Chinese form of democracy over the American version of democracy any day.

The Chinese version of democracy ensures that only people who are proven to be able to contribute to society are allowed to stand for elections. They need to be members of the Communist Party. To be a member, they must already have contributed to society. Then, if selected to be a member, they must go through a probation period where they again must achieve certain targets in terms of contributions to their society, before being accepted as a full member.

It also enables things to be done fast (without wasting time arguing over party lines in Congress), and enables China to plan for the long term, without worrying about the next government overturning everything that has been planned.

When Covid-19 first hit China, they could decide to build two new large, well equipped hospitals within days, and have the hospitals built in 10 days. This would be impossible in the US. The “debate” on building the hospitals alone would take months.

They allow constructive criticism but will act upon slander. They have among the safest streets in the world. And contrary to what the US would like the world to believe, there is no racial discrimination or oppression in China.
