How did the U.S. go wrong on Huawei?
Killing Huawei is “10 times more important” than a trade deal with China, according to former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon. In other words, the so-called trade war is more about maintaining America’s technological hegemony than about balancing its trade with China.

Huawei is a living proof to falsify one of Trump’s reiterated lies that China is “the greatest theft in the history of the world” — Huawei or China simply cannot steal what the US does not have.. Therefore, the US has to fabricate another reason, national security, and to declare a state of emergency to contain Huawei — an old “fear and intimidation” tactic that only makes the US look paranoiac and ridiculous globally.

Of course, China will not give up its R&D in order to make a trade deal with the US. China’s technological progress will keep going, and overall China will surpass the US in technological innovations in no time. Huawei is just one example of numerous Chinese companies that have been diligently, fearlessly, and often successfully, pursuing entrepreneurial and technological excellence in the global market.

America’s global hegemony does not apply to China (and some other countries, such as Russia, for that matter). Beijing does not take orders from Washington — not since the Korean War. China’s renaissance can only be stopped by China itself — something unlikely to happen. China has learned an expensive lesson from its “century of humiliation”.

The US is trying to do the impossible — i.e., to contain China.
