Chinas Belt and Road pretty much covers the worlds major trade routes so if Europe wanted to do the same it would be a waste of money that could probably be used better elsewhere.

B&R was first developed to fill in missing links that would interconnect disconnected road infrastructure. This made trade simpler, cheaper, faster and journeys shorter. China asked other nations to do the same and, now, after a deacde or so, we have roads, rail, ships, aircraft, ports, airports, etc. spanning the globe and are all inter-connected.

I remember one of the first problems that China fixed. It was on the Karakorum Highway.

This highway connects Kashgar with Islamabad. A part of the highway skirted a lake but an earthquake caused some ot the ground to fall into the lake making the highway impassable.

China sent a work team from China to rebuild the road and to make sure the road was far enough from the lake to ensure that the highway would never see the same problem occurring. The work team then got back in the trucks and drove back to China.

No money changed hands.
