The question really only needs a quick answer:

United States did indeed help China industrialize – – the Republic of China. Just as the US chose South Korea, the US made its choice of which China to help.

Just a quick note that the propaganda from that time labeled the Republic of China, “free China.” This is simply nonsense – – both the Republic of China as well as the Peoples Republic of China were run by authoritarian, strong men. I am not, incidentally, being critical of this fact, since I think it was absolutely necessary at that time. But the idea that the Republic of China was some free and easy, classical Greek democracy is purposefully misleading bullshit.
