Watched two of them this morning before bed. One was about the police academy letting women in. A female reporter showed up to do an article on it. She had a reputation for being ruthless and Friday was aware. Lots of back and forth between Friday and the sarcastic women with Friday getting sarcastic himself. Parts of the episode reminded me of myself, which is a good thing because I like it. The woman reporter wanted to do a piece on the women about to graduate from the academy. She was allowed to pick the women she found most interesting. She picked one that was on the verge of a nervous breakdown and showed it. She felt she'd have an easy target, that the female cop candidate would cave in and quit before graduation. Of course the female plebe finds sudden strength and rises above it. But along the way there was a lot of dialogue between Friday and the female reporter. At one point she asks Friday if he liked any of her books and he says, "I don't know, I haven't read any", then quickly adding, "But I know one thing", to which she says, "What?", and Friday says, "You enjoyed writing them." I laughed out loud at that one. It's true. I am no writer, but I can identify with Friday's statement because I have written stuff without needing to know what other people think of it because I enjoyed writing it and that's good enough for me.

How about a new Black dragnet where the cops are all Black except for a few white minorities? The new Black Friday gets tough in the backroom. He grills hard, even harder the original Friday. Well educated in his field but very ebonic. The main difference between this Friday and the old one, perhaps the main difference, is that now in these advanced times Joe can use filthy language. "Yo, motha fucka, I don't think you listening to me - I said you better tell me where you stashed the loot or I'm gonna smash your face to pulp." The new Friday is shown as compassionate and fair, mainly because he treats all his suspects the same - like the dirt they are. In fact, sometimes Friday reserves his most hostile and aggressive lectures and threats for his own people. "You shoulda known better", he tells his backroom stable of suspects with a disgusted sneer. "My own people and they still haven't learned", he says, grabbing the big club in the corner and adding, "Well ok then motha fuckas, I'm gonna teach ya."

Oh by the way, I think I told you I saw Webb a few times driving cab in L.A.. He hung out at the same restaurant bar every day. I pumped his name into the search bar last night and checked out the "early life" section as well as his filmography. Some guys, when I check their filmography, I am blown away by their output. I saw an old guy on a 'Net episode the other night and googled him up. His name is Burt Mustin. He was actually close to 80 when he did some of his TV work. Some of his stuff went back to the silents. He was born in the 1800s. I am not in awe of the guy, but it amazing (with some of them), how much stuff they put out - makes them look like ordinary workers in that sense, only maybe a bit better paid.

I have been smoking weed every day for a number of years and it's turning me into a genuine procrastinator. More accurately I should say I am letting it do that to me. It's my choice. Doing nothing is my favorite hobby, but sometimes I carry it too far. The weed doesn't help in that regard. I don't do it to get blasted, just a few hits here and there. I think I saw some of the movie you're talking about. I have seen a lot of movies and I rarely find comedy movies to be funny. I prefer finding the funny in serious stuff. But every so often I'll like an actual comedy film, or at least part of it. If I had the equipment and were heavily into watching film I'd make my own library of film clips - only good scenes from a ton of different movies - sort of like an album of songs from different eras, but all good. All good because I like them. That is my main method of determining what is good.
