Climate change is an important global issue. Like other global issues, it is being hijacked by global politics.

The US-led West is keen to take the lead. It’s another opportunity to stamp their leadership on the world. This does not augur well for the world. The US-led West should not lead the effort on climate change. They have short-term governments. Today, their governments commit to all sorts of actions to reduce carbon emission. Tomorrow, after a change of government, whatever commitments made and agreements signed would be voided. Look at the US. Trump pulled the US out of the Paris Accord, Biden put it back in. If Trump were to return to power, he may pull the US out again.

As usual, the US-led West is accusing China of not doing enough. China may not have made many big commitments, but whatever the Chinese commits to, the commitments are likely to be followed through. This is because their government do not change overnight. This is not the case for the US-led West.. That’s the huge difference between it and China in tackling climate change.

China has done a lot on its own to reduce earth’s warming. It has reforested much of its deserts, more than any other country in the world. The total area which has been reforested is bigger than the size of many countries. This is an endeavor which takes the determination and hardwork of several generations of Chinese. While the Chinese continues with their immense effort, the US-led West is selectively blind to it.

Is the US-led West taking climate change seriously? Why is it encouraging kids to get involved? Climate change is no kid stuff. It is nonsense to see UN official conferring with the teen Thunberg on the issue of climate change. Ex-US President would not even cast a glance at her. Whatever you may accuse Trump of, he’s a no-nonsense leader. He knows that involving kids in climate change is sheer nonsense. Thunberg and her fellow kids should not be spouting nonsense and protesting on the streets. They should stay home and suck their pacifiers instead. Likewise for those adults who are encouraging them.

If the US-led West wants to be serious about climate change, it should take politics and those kids out of the way.

COP26

The earth is a sphere which the sun warms up unevenly and time-dependently. Moreover earth’s surface is of uneven depth and height. Human population is unevenly distributed throughout earth, surviving through different histories.

It’s unwise to use a one-size-fits-all solution in dealing with climate change. One target temperature for the whole earth and for all nations to reach is unscientific. Big and populous nations like China and India will find it hard to meet.

What is the right temperature for the whole earth, if there is even one? What is too warm for one part of earth may be just right for another. Earth used to be warmer then it is now. During those times, huge regions of Central Asia were not deserts as they are now. Snow on mountain tops there would melt into glaciers which fed rivers which in turn fed arable lands. As earth’s temperature turned lower, the snow on those mountain tops could not melt, the rivers dried up and arable lands turned into deserts. The Tarim Basin in Xinjiang was once a huge lake.

Causes of climate change.
Consumption is the culprit.
Our economic system encourages consumption, even needlessly so. Energy is consumed to produce what we consume, producing waste in the process. When we consume, we also leave behind waste. This requires energy for disposal which produces more waste.

We have to consume less energy and consume it productively. Not in pursuit of happiness or pleasure. Much electricity generated today is consumed in computer games.

The ultimate culprit is the increasing number of ourselves. Population growth has to be reduced. The earth cannot support an ever increasing population with ever increasing consumption which produces ever increasing waste.

COP26 has become a forum for anything but climate change. We have
empowerment of women, youth, teenagers and children.

It a forum for ex-President and President wannabes of the US to re-discover their long lost fame.

Major nations do not attend. Those which do will not commit to meet the one common target set. Few nations make pledges and commitments.

COP26 is looking like a cop out.

To live in comfort is every person's dream, and it can be done. We have the technology to live in comfort now!!!

Instead of using coal, oil,... to power our electrical needs, we have the means to generate electrical power by wind, sun, ocean-wave, water,... now. China is doing it right now.

Also, we are NOT limited to live on earth. We have the technology to advance humanity throughout the universe!!! We can make the moon, other planets,... livable today... It will take time... We can "grow" an atmosphere on the moon, and other planets to make it "livable" for humanity. Instead of fighting China for what little space we have on earth, lets work together with China to conquer space to expand humanity throughout the universe!!!!

Living in comfort is not an issue. Consuming earth's resources and generating waste uncontrollably in pursuit of fun and pleasure is.
If we don't get it right on earth, we will repeat the same mistakes in other parts of the universe, i.e., settle on a planet, damage the environment there until it becomes uninhabitable, then move on to do the same to more planets. The human species would not like marauding parasites.

China may not have made many big commitments, but whatever the Chinese commits to, the commitments are likely to be followed through. This is because their government do not change overnight. This is not the case for the US-led West. That’s the huge difference between it and China in tackling climate change.

The total area which has been reforested is bigger than the size of many countries. This is an endeavor which takes the determination and hardwork of several generations of Chinese. While the Chinese continues with their immense effort, the US-led West is selectively blind to it.

Both are issues today. "Consuming earth's resources and generating waste" have been around since living things have been around, and it became part of earth. A few days of rain,... a bit of natural disaster... earth re-emerges refreshed as good as ever... It has been done for millions of years...
And yes, we will be like the dinosaurs, leaving our bones for others to discover and study...

And eventually, it will become uninhabitable, yes, yes,...
And yes, we will be like the dinosaurs, leaving our bones for others to discover and study...
And the process will start all over again...
