For those who do not know Taiwan by reading Taiwan media:

Taiwan stock market would experience sudden fall if the PRC made
aggressive statement in response to Taiwan politicians making strong
independence claims. The press would then criticized those politicians
for their provocation.

Basically, most residents of Taiwan recognize and accept Taiwan's
situation. That is, 1) Taiwan, like any other place of the world, has a history,
it is a part of China according to this history. And 2) China, currently
represented by the PRC and the successor state of the ROC, would never
give up this claim.

At present, it is the implicit cross strait consensus as Taiwan residents know it
is "No independence, no unification by force. " That is as long as Taiwan does
not declare independence. PRC would not invade to reunify Taiwan by force.

The US is now playing the Taiwan card as a mean to block China's rise. And
Taiwan Independence leaders welcomes this America policy. But to average
residents of Taiwan, they are mostly spectators. Not necessarily the development
they want to see. But in the mean time, the risk PRC invasion is not imminent
from their point of view.

Poll results highly unsatisfactory toward Tsai government's "Two sides of the Strait" policy.
