The hypersonic missiles deployed by China and Russian are "gliders" that are launched into almost orbit altitude with propulsion then glide down to target. US version is a totally different animal. It is like a jet engine, i.e., continuous air breathing, but operates above Mach 5, the definition of hypersonic velocity.
In other words, the Chinese and Russian ones are like mini ICBMs (easier to accomplish for party already owning ICBM technology) , while the US one is like a cruise missile on steroids.
