The City of Oakland, California has ordered a centenarian resident to clean up graffiti from his property or face a substantial fine, KTVU reported.

Victor Silva Sr., a 102-year-old wheelchair user who has lived and paid taxes in his Oakland neighborhood for 80 years, was shocked to receive a violation notice earlier this month ordering the cleanup by March 19th.

If he fails to comply, he faces a $1,100 penalty, with additional charges of $1,277 for each re-inspection that finds the graffiti still in place.

Instead of punishing the graffiti thugs, the Democrats punish the 102-year-old crime victim homeowner.

He should just claim it is art and he asked the artist to decorate for him.

It is called "lawfare". It is BEYOND stupid, but that
is the way the loony left thinks and the loony Californians
vote.

I wonder if the old guys realizes he will be voting democrat
after he passes and several times each election?

His Oakland, CA home must be worth nearly $1 million. Certainly he can
afford to hire someone to comply with the graffiti cleanup.

When he bought it, it was probably 25,000. California
has had massive housing inflation. And with out prop 13,
he would have been taxed out of his home years ago.

California use to be a wonderful place to live. Now it
is a toilet.

How come Democrats give away thousands in cash prizes to feral illegal invaders but want to fine taxpaying citizens.

This is just another case of Democrats wanting to punish the victim. Democrats are absolutely insane.

It is called "virtue signaling" and "changing the nature of America".
And I agree, it is insane.

or his finances now compared to what they were when he bought. The
property tax bill may be making him broke now.

If so, and that is pure speculation, how much has it already
been leveraged? Reverse mortage? Second Mortgage? Do you
expect him to sell it to pay off the ridiculous fine?

That's assuming the story about the old man is actually true and
not just a fabrication by the sorry-ass trump nym-shifting trolls.

From KTVU channel 2:

"The city inspector contacted KTVU and said he would do

There ARE coatings (call ithem paints) that the crap the gangbangers
use for graffiti will not stick to. Just hose it off with water. It is
a clear semigloss coating that costs about $100 / gallon here in
Canada. A Siloxaine? coating

So do I. a very modest 48 year old suburban 2 story 3 bedroom brick
house on a roughly 1/3 acre corner lot in a small to medium sized
university city in Central Ontario that I bought for $63000 40 years
ago.My taxes are just over $4000 a year. If I sold it to move to
something cheaper I'd pretty much need to move 75 miles north to
somewhere with no facilities and no nearby hospital - and at 72 (wife
4 years older) THAT ain't happening - - - -

It all depends on when and where he bought the house. A man I worked
with had a plot of land about 30 x 50 feet at Myrtle Beach SC.
bought many years ago for not too much Sold it about 10 years ago for
over $ 500,000. The only thing on the land was a cement slab where he
parked a small camper.

In Charlotte some homes were bought many years ago and are almost in a
slum area now. However with all the people moving into the area they
are being offered several hundred dollars just so the homes could be
torn down and other housed built. The owners are mostly retired now and
vrey poor. They can not pay the tax on those homes now.

None of that is relevant. Homeowners must pay for ordinary and
reasonable upkeep of their $1 million home. People in such homes are the
first to complain about those who don't do upkeep.

Sure, it is relevant. Vandalism should be stopped by the police. This
is not normal upkeep like repairing a broken fence post. He has been
doing the normal upkeep but does not sit out on the sidewalk with a gun.
Perhaps he should.

Can not do that. Remember that man and woman that stood on their
property in California and got their guns taken away .

It IS relevant because a "one million dollar house" today is NOTHING
- especially when compared to a 1 million dollar house even 10 years
ago.
And the fact Oakland Council had to send out an inspector IMMEDIATELY
afterth poor guy cleaned up the grafitti so they could recsind the
fine says a lot more about Oakland than aboutt he 102 year old owner
of the "million dollar house"

The only solution to the grafitti problem is grafitti shedding paint
and a pressure washer. Using the pressure washer on the grafitti
artists is optional.

In some places the land is where the value is. I see stories of some
multi million dollar houses torn down and newer larger or custom homes
built. That house may be a shack or a $ 100,000 house in other places.
About 10 years ago I sold a small 3 bed bath and 1/2 house that was not
much over 1000 sqft for $ 90,000 in NC. A man I know moved from Cape
Cod and had a house about like mine and at the same time his was sold
for over $ 300,000. It may be all the man can do is make payments on
the house and eat.
