WWWW

What's with windshield wipers.

The last time I bought them they had the normal kind, with metal
brackets that pushed the rubber against the window, and they had
one-piece curved rubber with a layer of plastic behind it, already
curved. But they seemed like junk to me. Now it seems that's all they
sell. Who wants junk? And thought they are a lot simpler to make,
they are a lot more expensive.

It's called "progress" and/or "planned obsolescence". We're just a
bunch of old farts now, spouting "back when I was young......" with too
much time on our hands, hanging out on USENET.

I checked 4 different local retailers - not auto-parts specialists -
3 had both styles of wiper blades in stock, in numerous lengths.
Canadian Tire ; Home Hardware ; Princess Auto.
Only Costco had just the beam-style.
Keep shoppin' ..

I had looked at Autozone and I didn't think I saw them.

I will have to go in person to Pep Boys... last I looked a year ago
their webpage didn't go into detail**.

I would love to meet Princess Auto. She sounds as pretty as Princess
Summer-fall-winter-spring, but she knows about cars too. A great
combination.

**Did you ever see the movie, Born Yesterday, with Broderick Crawford
and Judy Holliday? it's a great movie and in one scene the radio is
playing an ad for Pep Boys, Manny, Moe, and Jack, except then they were
selling clothes.

In your honor I looked at the Autozone webpage again and all of the
wipers were shown in the narrow tubes or boxes they come in, and you
couldnt' tell what design was used. Only one picture per item. I had
thought those pictures are primarily provided by the product makers, and
you'd think theyd provide pictures that emphasize how good something is.
Everything can ocme in a box.

This was Autozone, but checking Advance Auto now, it seems to be the
same. OTOH, Amazon did have lots of poictures and they were all the
one piece, not metal backing.

there are other chains with detailed webpages, but not around here, so
no reason to chekc them.

PepBoys and Salvo don't have detailed webpages.
