I do not care about water saving or price.

It does not have to look fancy, but I am getting too old to deal with
snakes and plungers.

So, folks what is the best?

A few years ago, I replaced my $60 cheapie with a a Swiss Madison that
was supposed to be clog free and it clogs twice as often .

Thanks

Probably not a great answer, as these are designed for a specific
purpose and cost a LOT, but "mascerating toilets" shred everything
you drop in them and then (optionally...) have a pump so you
can use these in basements and pump the sewage up and out.

I've never had a clog with a Kohler toilet.

I've never had a clog with _any_ toilet, for that matter. Perhaps
you're flushing something that shouldn't be flushed?

You may have misunderstood clog free. It means clogs are free, no extra
charge.

I have Kohler with the 1.6 gallon flush in this house and the last one.
Never had a clog.

Maybe you should change your diet?

Is a traditional outhouse an option where you live? Those things are about as
trouble-free as things get. Build a 2-holer so that you can make it look like a
standard garden shed instead of an outhouse.

No outhouse option but in the case of an emergency, there is a nice
drain in the basement.

When the kids still lived here, they thought it was a fun thing to use.

Yeah, well, some of us have more vicious digestive systems.

We've got a Kohler, and it's very good. I've had to use the plunger
only two or three times in the past 7 years. The previous toilet
was more like once a month.

I used to sell plumbing supplies in the late 70's. Our best selling brand.

The common reasons behind a toilet that keeps clogging include:

Too Much Toilet Paper.
Non-flushable Items.
Original Low-Flow Toilet Issues.
Toilet Trap Clogs.
Toilet Vent Clogs.
Sewer Line Clogs.

If the vent is blocked or clogged it will affect flush
performance.

I have Eljer toilets. Came with the house. Cheap brand?

Only had one toilet clog in my whole life. Plunged once and fixed
easily.

5 or 10 years ago. Might have been too much toilet paper, but only
because I can't think of another reason. Didn't think of that at the
time.

My two K-4647 Kohler, Stonewood's clog
a lot less than the original toilets.

Our worst cause of clogs is Charmin toilet
paper.

I have now gone with that septic safe stuff.

I'm at the point in life where I'm getting away from doing projects, so
I found a plumber that will take a good quality new toilet and rebuild
it for high flush volume.

Though the toilet I have might only clog three times a year, IMO, that
is three times a year too many. The super cheap toilet I had been using
for the previous 20 years, might only have clogged twice.

My toilets are 44 years old, so none of this low-volume. And somehow
I've not seen them elsewhere until I went to visit my brother who was
living in Tamarac Florida. I would have thought apartments there (at
63rd and 63rd iirc) are not so new, but the toilet seemed to be.

It was amazing. No swirling. It just sat there until all of a sudden it
went towards the wall and disappeared. It really did use less water
and for me it fully flushed. But I was only there for 3 days and my
research is incomplete. (My thesis isn't due until 2026, when I hope to
get my Ph.D. in plumbing.)

They make some kind of power assist flush. I've used them in hotels, but I don't know how they work.

We've been in this house 15 years, and had one clog. The kids are grown now, but back then they had friends over and something got flushed that shouldn't have. I'm sure you know what I mean. These are older American Standard toilets.

In Germany the toilets were super low flow because water was extremely expensive. But I don't remember every plunging there either.

I have never had a low flow toilet that plugged up as much as the old
"full flow" ones did.

Clogging is not the only problem with many toilets. Those that use
forced flush aren't always the best in cleaning the bowl. The gravity
fed ones that fill up the bowl first work much better in that respect.

At work a ton of forced flush Kohlers were installed and it seems there
is no water jet right where it's needed the most for those who
splatter. Any toilet you go to has skid marks in it until the janitors
come around once a week.

When we lived and worked in Germany, every toilet had a cleaning brush next to it. If you left skid marks you were supposed to be considerate enough to take care of it.

In one building where I worked, the exhaust fan came on when you shut a toilet stall door, not when you entered the bathroom. It was a repurposed barracks, now engineering offices, so there was a row of stalls. I always thought that was taking energy efficiency to an extreme.

My brother bought an expensive house in Texas which I think his wife
remodeled, and she or the predecessor put in fancy toilets, imported or
something, looking basically like Elger or Kohler but something was
different because there was always residue on the bottom of the bowel if
you did more than pee. If it had been my house I would have made the
remodeller, if he had recommended them, take them out. But I was a
visitor so I didn't say anything. Paying extra for something not
nearly as good. Ugh. -- These were tank toilets so water pressure was
not the cause of the problem.
