"IF THE PROPAGANDISTS of the Taliban had scripted the collapse of America’s 20-year mission to reshape Afghanistan, they could not have come up with more harrowing images. As insurgents swept into Kabul, desperate Afghans, terrified about what the victorious zealots might do, chased departing American cargo planes down the runway, trying to clamber into the landing gear and inevitably falling to their deaths. The American-backed government had surrendered without a fight—something that American officials were insisting would not happen only days before. Afghans were left in such a horrifying bind that clinging to the wheels of a hurtling aircraft seemed their best option.
....
As a result, America’s power to deter its enemies and reassure its friends has diminished. Its intelligence was flawed, its planning rigid, its leaders capricious and its concern for allies minimal. That is likely to embolden jihadists everywhere, who will take the Taliban’s victory as evidence that God is on their side. It will also encourage adventurism on the part of hostile governments such as Russia’s or China’s, and worry America’s friends. Mr Biden has defended the withdrawal by arguing that Afghanistan was a distraction from more pressing problems, such as America’s rivalry with China. But by leaving Afghanistan in such a chaotic fashion, Mr Biden will have made those other problems harder to deal with."

Yes, quite bad news for the world, for Afghanistan's neighbors in particular. However, the US has freed up a lot of resources.

No really. Trump had already drawn down the US military from 15000 to 2500..

Anyway, the narrative that the US has freed up a lot of military related resources
so that it could use elsewhere is funny.
Afghanistan is a landlocked, poor, backward and divided country 20 years ago.
A good target for US militarism. No?
Yet, its 20 year mission in Afghan ends up a total failure. What now?
Looking for another mission, against a bigger and a manufacturing power?

The US, like all other countries, has problems. Mostly not related to lack of military
resource. America's #1 problem is its fake democracy. And the media which mission
is to make money by misinforming the people.

Yes, Uncle Sam has his eyes set on China!!! and gathering all his "allies" to gang-up on China, to
destroy China before China has the power to bump Uncle Sam down to #2!!!!

Yes, lack of military resources,...
1: railgun project - failure. China has railgun.
2: hypersonic weapon - failure. China has all kinds of hypersonic weapons..
3: laser weapon - none. China has laser gun.
4: even old-fashion warships - China has a hundred more warships than the U.S. Navy!!!
5: China has the only radio telescope in the world

What sources?
Toward China and/or some other nations, foreign policy begins at home which is also the title of a 2013 book written by Richard Haass.

"Just five years before Foreign Policy Begins at Home appeared, a predatory financier class had successfully socialized the risks associated with its derivatives sorcery, even as millions of Americans lost their homes to foreclosure. That moral and economic catastrophe alone should have been enough to prompt a profound and immediate rethink of America’s imperial ambitions. If this was who we were at home—or rather, if this was what our elites were capable of—what could be expected of their rule abroad? Never mind, we barreled on.

The internal decay has only accelerated since then, and yet the foreign-policy apparatus—liberal and “conservative,” governmental and nonprofit—still publishes annual reports judging other nations on a dozen silly metrics; champions this or that foreign dissident who may or may not be worth championing; issues urgent appeals about “democratic backsliding” in Central Europe and LGBTQ rights in Uzbekistan. More than once in the past few years, I’ve felt an urge to grab these men and women by the well-tailored lapel, shake them and scream, Look around you!

Look at American society. Forget the obvious signs of cultural decadence (not to say insanity). Forget that our athletes and celebrities refuse to honor the flag etched on our troops’ uniforms. Set aside, too, the bizarre fact of a regime that enacts laws referring to mothers as “birthing people.” Just look at the seriously mentally ill and other lost souls sleeping rough on your streets. Ponder the fact that 1 of 5 young people has no friends. Feel some shame at the eyewatering material inequality. Consider the fact that much of the urban underclass is high on weed most of the workday. Visit the vast opioid den beyond the metropole, what used to be called rural America. Stop lecturing the world, and for God’s sake, stop trying to remake other societies in your own image."

https://www.theamericanconservative.com/articles/an-apology-to-richard-haass/

America needs to put its own house in order. Pivoting from the Middle East to China would not help.

When the Taliban start infecting their neighbors, China, Russia, Pakistan, Iran, you can be sure that the apologists here will deny it.

Well, American "resources" are like yesteryears' "bows and arrows" to China's hypersonic weapons...
American resources can't even defeat Vietnam and Afghanistan. So, don't try to be funny, Byker!!!

It's an even BIGGER BLOW to the Democratic Party as they try to lie and
create FAKE NEWS to hide their incompetence.

Since Obama is the Democrat Party, it also shows Obama's incompetence as
clear as day. Obama cleared out the top echelon of officers in the
Military and installed his own choices.... and look what we got. Then
Obama supported Biden who he knew was corrupt and mentally defective...

Thank you Obama..
and
Thank you DEMOCRATIC PARTY.

The failure of America is all on you.

Censorship becomes a systemic hate crime and a form of SLAVERY when it's
illegally forced on American citizens. TWITTER'S censorship is enslaving

Oh!! Come on!!! Stop blaming the Democrats, Obama,...
Our problems of these nature had been around for hundreds of years...
The Native American Indians
The slavery problems
millions of Bison slaughter just for their skin...
Civil War
Vietnam War
Afghanistan War
The war in Syria. If Russia didn't come in to help Assad, Syria would be another war of this nature...
There will be more wars of this kind until America loses its power...

Why was Biden so eager to withdraw the last 2500 supporting soldiers?
The US has about 200,000 soldiers stations outside of the 50 states. The
2500 and associated air support, while significant in keeping Afghanistan
state, mean little over the big picture. May be Biden is trying to prove his
ability to get things done.

As is, one can say the Democratic party would suffer next year. However,
there is still time to improve or reverse the perception. One key issue is
getting American citizens out safely.

The biggest obstacle is the US government has little idea concerning the
number of American citizens currently stuck in Afghanistan. The US
certainly needs Taliban assistance directly or indirectly through a third
country. America or Biden's trump card is that it could assist or obstruct
Afghanistan's future development.

Biden has its job cut out for him now. He needs to know the whereabout of
American citizens. He may also need to arrange a rescue mission the like
of The Entebbe Rescue Operation. Doing it right, it could be very positive to
Democrats' mid term election next year.

On the other hand, if Afghan 2010 ends up like Iran of 1979 with US citiznes
taken as hostage. The Democratic party will lose the 2022 midterm as well as
the 2024 presidential election. That's karma.

You are absolutely right, Biden is trying he to prove he has the ability to
get things done.

After reading the report of 20 years war in Afghanistan, his mind gave him,
maybe, a word " the longest days" movie. The word, longest day movie,
captured and locked in his mind.

He then looked at the number in the report which says, 2,500 troops still
remained in Afghanistan. So he thought "the small number will not cause any
earthquake at all to Americans and opposition party at all in US".

So in his mind is set for him to declare the Afghanistan war is the longest
war ever. He then arranged the preparation of the executive order to
withdraw the remaining small number of troops left in Afghanistan.

But he has forgotten there are many people not only Americans but others
such as German and others still in Afghanistan. There are about 45,000
Americans and Europeans still in Afghanistan.

The right thing now IMO is to forget Trump's deal and just do what it takes to get everyone out, while also trying to deal with the horrible Taliban. Tough job. But easy for the haters on this NG to dis. Support our military, support our efforts. Talk is cheap. And useless.

Given the many gaffes, Biden inevitably noticed and/or were reminded
of his relative mental decline. If I were him, I would certainly eager to prove that I
were still at the top of important issues. Unfortunately, patience is required
rather than decisiveness in the case of withdrawing from Afghanistan.

Biden is saying that it makes no difference with the current withdrawal
"problem" whether it was one or two months ago or from today at one month
forward.

Well, regardless, he should have known the large number of civilians of more
than 45,00) were not retreated at the same time. This makes the people
scared of the suddenness of it.

At this moment, there are 18 commercial planes have been chartered and
engaged in sending out the people waiting to leave Afghanistan.

More commercial planes are required and are being arranged to transport the
necessary people outside of Afghanistan.

Henceforth, there should be some measures by the Taliban to extend the
withdraw time limit to a further time of sin in the airport.

Well, the Taliban had said "No".
The ball is now on the US court. Would the US fight to get the people out? Or
would it bribe Taliban to get the people? Eyes are on the White House. So
are Democrat's 2022 midterm and 2024 elections.

Taliban now say no does not mean they will not change their mind.

Their threat of "consequences" is only a connotation rather than its literal
meaning.

It is idea or feeling by the Taliban spokesman when interviewed on the
extended date of withdrawal.

The situation is fluid.
Deadline is just one of the bargaining chips both sides could use
to maximize their gain.

A bigger problem for both the US and the Taliban is that there are other players
in Afghan. Members of the ISIS and al Queda may not mind to see US to stay
in Afghanistan. If these groups could get their hands on some Americans,
would they exercise self restraint? Could and would Taliban restrain them?
