This has been driving me crazy for months.
I had to replace the screen door piston because it broke. Replacement was installed without an issue. But now, door has been swinging 3/4 closed really fast, and then slow for the remaining 1/4 swing. This initial fast swing has been catching everyone's ankles and injuring guests and family. Is there any way to get it to be slow-and-steady for the ENTIRE closure swing (like we got used to with the original piston)? I've messed with the new piston valve screw, but I was only able to get it to close slowly throughout such that, by the final few inches, it's just so weak that it doesn't engage the lock anymore.
Has this happened to you and how did you solve?
Advice appreciated.
Theodore

Check out the bracket attached to the door. If it has adjustment holes where the screws go into the door, move it. Everything that shortens the piston tightens it. There might be 2 holes where the piston attaches to that bracket. They call it summer or winter. Winter is for when you have glass in, not screens. Winter os closest to the piston.
The piston screw loosens the close when it is loosened.
If nothing works get a better quality piston or a dual, one on top and one on the bottom.
Check out some youtubes.
