There will be a couple thousand of them in the U.S. starting in 2026.

I can't help but think it would be fairly easy to steal them. No reason, just because.

A city near me has these e-bikes & e-scooters scattered
around town for rental - via an app -
but I've never seen anyone actually on one ..

You'd think they'd be a target for thieves - the batteries cost
a few hundred bucks to buy.

GPS tracking will probably disable the robot if it leaves a designated
area plus send out a distress call to home base along with it's location.

You would probably wind-up with a brick on wheels.

I probably see 50-100 electric scooters and bikes each day I ride my
bike 14 miles to volleyball games. Mostly parked, but dozens on the

I watched a long youtube review of ebikes. The two drawbacks he mentioned
was the ease of stealing the battery and the high center of gravity. He
hadn't ridden a bike in years because of an injury and said many people
buying ebikes are in the same position. The lack of experience and high CG
leads to falls.

We recently bought a pair of folding e-bikes - no problems so far.
They _are_ heavy to lift in & out of the car, a little bit more
awkward when getting on /off ; but great for riding.
The battery chargers are a big fire hazard - beware !

One was stopped at a light with me yesterday. Light changed, bikes ahead
of him took off, he followed. He didn't want to wait, whipped left from
the bike lane into the cars lane, and QUICKLY accelerated up to the
traffic speed, probably 30 mph or so, passed the bikes, and back into
the bike lane. All this on a slight upgrade. Very powerful.

I'd like to see the same guy do a fast stop.

There is another kind, like a snowboard, with one wheel in the middle of
the board. One foot across the board front and one rear.

That's only 32 lbs and not too bad to get into the hatchback. I didn't see
a weight for the Watt but it has to be a lot more.

54 pounds for the Monty folding e-bike.

https://www.montaguebikes.com/product/m-e1/

$ 4000.00 US ! Ours were less than half that.
Montague offers a smaller motor ; smaller battery ..
better motor-drive tech. I think ?

I didn't know they had an ebike. I bought mine years ago before ebikes
were much of a thing. At the time it was one of the few folders that had
full sized wheels and not a clown car setup. The design is quite a bit
different so it's not a direct comparison but the battery and motor adds
about 20 pounds. That's less than I thought.

eBike comparisons aren't easy with the assortment of techs involved but I
see quite a few under $1000 on the web. Locally there aren't many options
and they're all well over $1000. I bought the Montague directly but I'd
want to take a ride around the block when buying an ebike.

The entry-level folding e-bikes are pretty similar tech. -
- rear wheel hub motor ; Shimano 6 or 7 speed shifter ;
disc brakes ; 5-level pedal assist ; throttle ;
Some of the differences are battery size ; front suspension ;
Recently, the rider-weight capability has gone up to
275 even 300 lbs < ! > - I think the fat tires help there.
The fancy <expensive> folding ebikes like the Montague
use the motor on the pedal mechanism.
