These questions were written to be asked in Toronto on 2013-04-01,
and should be interpreted accordingly. All questions were written
by members of the Night Owls, but have been reformatted and may
have been retyped and/or edited by me. I will reveal the correct
answers in about 3 days.

For further information, including an explanation of the """
notation that may appear in these rounds, see my 2022-09-09
companion posting on "Reposted Questions from the Canadian
Inquisition (RQFTCI*)".

** Game 8, Round 9 - Miscellaneous - Slogans

In this round, we will give you an advertising slogan and you have
to name the product or company """using""" it.

1. "Because I'm worth it."
2. "Think outside the bun."
3. "The world's local bank."
4. "The best a man can get."
5. "Does she... or doesn't she?"
6. "The happiest place on Earth."
7. "Reach out and touch someone."
8. "Welcome to the Human Network."
9. "Solutions for a small planet."
10. "It's everywhere you want to be."

** Game 8, Round 10 - Challenge Round - April Fool

* A. What a Fool Believes

These two questions are about well-known stock frauds.

A1. This Indonesian gold property, which was reported to
contain more than 200,000,000 ounces, was said to be the
richest gold mine ever. The stock price for this company
skyrocketed to a high of $280. At its peak, the company had
a market capitalization of $4,400,000,000. In 1997, the gold
mine proved to be fraudulent and the stock price crashed.
What was the name of this company?

A2. The Ponzi scheme that he ran is considered to be the
largest financial fraud in US history. He was arrested
in 2008. Who """is""" he?

* B. A Fool's Paradise

These two questions are about the poem "Paradise Lost".

B1. Who wrote it?
B2. What biblical story is it based on?

* C. Fool Me Once

These two questions are about movies about frauds or alleged frauds
in real life.

C1. Name the 2011 movie that suggested that Edward de Vere
(the 17th Earl of Oxford), and not William Shakespeare,
was the author of what we now know as the collected works
of Shakespeare.

C2. Name the 2002 movie that starred Leonardo DiCaprio as a man
who, after high school, began a short career of impersonating
professionals such as doctors, lawyers, and airline pilots.

* D. I Pity the Fool

In each case, name the trash-talking boxer.

D1. He had these words for his opponent Lennox Lewis in 2002:
"My style is impetuous. My defense is impregnable.
And I'm just ferocious. I want your heart. I want
to eat his [sic] children. Praise be to Allah."

D2. In 1975 he said his opponent Joe Frazier "is so ugly that he
should donate his face to the US Bureau of Wildlife". Later,
in the build-up to the notorious Thrilla in Manila, he said,
"It will be a killer, and a chiller, and a thriller, when
I get the gorilla in Manila."

* E. Fool's Gold

E1. By American standards, fake gold is anything with a purity
below what threshold in karats? Answer within 2 karats.

E2. What mineral has a superficial resemblance to gold, and
hence the common name "fool's gold"?

* F. A Fool to Try

These two questions are about famous daredevil families.

F1. This tightrope-walking family was prominent from the 1930s
to the 1960s. The great-grandson of the family patriarch
crossed Niagara Falls on a cable in 2012. Give their
family name.

F2. This father and son performed stunts in different eras.
They both were best known for using motorcycles to jump
great distances. Give their family name.

The instructions do say "or company using it". Disney is the name of the
company, so it should get full points.

Technically wrong -- it's *Walt* Disney Co. -- but good enough for me.
4 for *Pete*, Dan Blum, Joshua, and *Dan Tilque*, then.

Incidentally, nobody noticed this issue when I posted this round in 2013
and made a similar ruling about that answer.
