Beijing bans foreign textbooks ..

Since the 19th century, many in Asia felt the need to learn and adopt
'advanced' Western things. It was mainly about technics and engineering
etc, and also included humanitarian social ideas. Together with other
humantitarism, many popular Western historical concepts (which primarily
serve the West-centric cultism) were [uncritically] adopted too.

History is the most sensitive field in this respect. Every nation seeks
to maintain it to some extent self-centric, but too much deviation from
the sense of proportion would backfire and undermine popular trust to
the national curriculum. In the present day open world, people may learn
something from other sources. Distrust to "offical history" then makes
simple people prone to uncritically take some "opposite" exaggerations
or myths. And there is nothing good about that.

Against historical (mis)interpretations, "social sciencies", general
ideas about social organization and the like, are less directly linked
with a particular foreign interest, but still may contain some "eggs".
E.g., the concept of democracy is basically universal, but some Western
narratives and accents attached to it include elements intended to
protect domination of the Western ruling political class / elite in the
context of the whole world. So it necessitates to properly separate the
wheat from the chaff.
