I visited a pub recently.

I ordered a pizza and a drink and a glass of water.

I went to the bathroom.

I was gone about 3 minutes or less.

When I came back, my food and drink were gone.

I was not too happy.

Is this considered acceptable customer service?

Andy

Did you start to eat? Did you already pay?

If it looked like you were done, possibly.

Did you complain? What did they say?

Was the place busy at the time. Anyone waiting for a table?

I'm old enough to know how the desire to pee comes on suddenly, but it
works better to do that before the pizza coomes so you can eat the pizza
hot. I suppose they thought you had gone.

Seems like most of the story is missing, including perhaps the most
important part, such as what did they say when you got back and asked
what had happened?

If they offered to remake everything at no additional cost, then no
harm, no foul. OTOH, if they didn't even remember that you had been
there, then maybe you'd be miffed.

You are making excuses for VERY, VERY, VERY bad service.

They replaced the drink but not the food.

Your answer validates my point.

I have about 40 years of customer service experience.

I have worked in restaurants and other retail establishments.

Your answer validates the lack of information. We did not see what was
left.

It also depends on how long it had been since the pizza showed up and how much
had been eaten. Did it come 5 minutes ago and only 10% was eaten? Or did it come
an hour ago and only 10% was left? Had the check already been paid? Still, if it was
my business I would have given another pizza for free.

I'm picturing an over-worked, very underpaid, lowest
of the low staff member - bus-person - seeing an empty
table with some leftover meal scraps and clearing it off.
You're so almighty miffed you feel compelled to discuss it
here in a home repair group ... sheeesh.
Simply boycott that restaurant forever and make them grateful.

Is this pub in a democrat city with Soros-funded prosecutors and judges?

If so, retail theft under $1000 may not be prosecuted. Consequently,
pubs get a lot of eat & boogies.
All the pub can do is set the table up again and hope for a paying customer.

what?

Drinks that come out of a dispenser cost the restaurants very little.
The pizza is probably much more expensive. Are we talking about a slice,
or two, or more?

You are on the right tract.

Though I think you are misguided.

There were no scraps left. There was half a pizza left.

I feel that you do not understand the concept of good customer service.

Have a good evening.

I don't think you and I agree on the meaning of the word "excuse" and I
think you are using it in a non-standard way.

Again I ask "What excuse did Jim make, and for what?" and what excuse
did I make, and for what?

Asking questions is not making an excuse.

Pointing out the difference in cost to the restaurant of a drink versus
pizza is not any sort of excuse and if anything supported you by
pointing out that the replacement drink they gave you was worth less
than the replaement pizza they did not give you.

And you didn't reply to trader who asked what percent of the pizza had
been eaten, etc.

Unacceptable. It is a bar though. Maybe shoot up the place.
What you need in a bar is a marker. Something personal so they know you are there.
A pack of smokes, a hat hanging off the stool or a bitch. Oh, do not ever order water. Go to a nice place like Domino's.
I have been smashed through a glass cooler, broken jaw, and never thought customer service was bad.

Pizza expensive? Good grief, the cost to restaurants for a pizza is about
as low as it gets.

But it's pathetically stupid. The cost of a pizza for a restaurant is about
as low as it gets. This isn't a steak or lobster. But there are people that think
like this. Piss off a customer over what would cost you a few bucks to replace,
then months later when business is down and you have no customers, start
putting out buy one dinner, get one free coupons.

Thanks for the feedback.

Many "moons" ago I worked for J.C. Penneys.

It was a very good company to work for. :-)

I started working part time to pay my way thru college.

They sent me for training for a shoe department manager position.

The teacher said something to this effect.

If a customer has a positive experience, they will tell about 3 people.

If they have a negative experience, they will tell about 10 people.
