https://scitechdaily.com/an-unprecedented-190-quantum-efficiency-new-material-could-drastically-increase-the-efficiency-of-solar-panels/

A team from Lehigh University has created a material that
could significantly enhance the efficiency of solar panels.

A prototype using the material as the active layer in a
solar cell exhibits an average photovoltaic absorption of
80%, a high generation rate of photoexcited carriers, and
an external quantum efficiency (EQE) up to an unprecedented
190%—a measure that far exceeds the theoretical Shockley-
Queisser efficiency limit for silicon-based materials and
pushes the field of quantum materials for photovoltaics
to new heights.

“This work represents a significant leap forward in our
understanding and development of sustainable energy
solutions, highlighting innovative approaches that could
redefine solar energy efficiency and accessibility in
the near future,” said Chinedu Ekuma, professor of physics,
who published a paper on the development of the material
with Lehigh doctoral student Srihari Kastuar in the journal
Science Advances.

.. . .

Interesting that you CAN squeeze that much more
efficiency out of PV cells. The QUESTION is
whether this can be integrated with existing
tech and/or its own new tech AFFORDABLY. Too
often what works on a 1mm square in a lab is
not economically/industrially realizable.

But, best case, this would REALLY make PV power
into something extremely useful. But no, you
can't just bolt a panel or two on the roof of
your SUV and drive around ... stay real here.
But as a CHARGING source for an E-SUV ...

NEXT great obstacle - BATTERIES. They SUCK.
Lithiums are expensive, don't hold enough
power, don't charge fast enough, use slave
labor and tend to explode. Without better
batteries or equivs then "solar power" will
grow MUCH more slowly no matter how good
the PV panels may become. Greenie dreams
need REAL SCI/TECH, or they're just sci-fi
bullshit.
