It took a while before the airlines realized they could add seats to the
upper deck. When we were setting up a molding plant in Minnesota I would
fly out Sunday night. The Chicago to Minneapolis hop was mostly stews
relocating for the Monday red-eyes. Party time!. Northwest was a bit
different than other airlines of the day. They didn't use the little nips.
The galleys had real bottles of booze. There were sleeves over the labels
but it wasn't rotgut and the stews poured heavy.

Looking back it's a wonder I didn't spread myself over the prairie on the
150 mile drive from Minneapolis to Morris.

I've reached the point where if I can't drive there I'm not going.

No, you'd have to pay for a boarding kennel and both the wife and dog
would be pissed at you.

You're a wise man of great taste! This is one of my goals. I might accept
train if they work as well and are as quiet as in Japan.

I like trains but the nearest Amtrak terminal is about 120 miles away. We
have two train stations. The old Milwaukee terminal is now the Boone and
Crockett Club headquarters and the right of way is a bike trail. The
Northern Pacific is offices I think. That one has working rails but they
are all freight except for very rare excursions.

Quite unbelievable given all the noise the previous one made in the headlines!

Yeah, right, a geriatric hobo. A lot of them are coal trains and the cars
look like they're a bit short on creature comforts.

Weather report is for one last cold-snap
this week.

After that, pretty tropical ... El Nino is
back after less than a year. Hung around for
almost four years last time. Near-permanent
"tropical jet" now ..........

If you live on the Gulf Coast - better do those
Cat4+ improvements. Lots of steel straps holding
things together. Consider houses made from
welded-together old steel cargo containers,
really.

I see there's now a fair prediction that ALL
arctic ice will vanish, maybe within just a
few years. BIG boon to TRADE .... not so sure
what it means for other stuff. After the Dino
Asteroid there was a good span where the world
was tropical rain-forest pole to pole. We may
be seeing a repeat. No, NOT bad for "diversity",
indeed a boon, esp for the new little furry
things, but damned inconvenient for current
human systems. We'd better find NEW systems ...

Yep - Europe/UK all ONE piece of land ... and almost
up until written history. Pity nobody figured-out
writing earlier. "Doggerland" was the final remnant.

Maybe they did figure out writing, but how many of
those possible old recs are now 100' below sea-level ?

Sea level IS going to keep increasing. The Greenies
are freaking at the thought WE are significantly
speeding that up, faster than is easy to cope with.
Alas there are a LOT of factors that go into global
warming - and SUVs/CO2 are only one. Even slight
variations in volcanic dust/sulfates can catalyze
significant trends.

We DO have to figure out - quickly - what to do
about accelerated sea-level rise. Sorry, banning
SUVs and such ain't gonna put a dent in it.

Coastal cities will have to be "built back" from
the sea - ie no new building permits near the
current coasts no matter the cost of the real
estate involved. I'd suggest current +2 meters
as the new legal 'beachfront' mark. 'Current',
of course, changes over time.

Modern structures aren't built to last anyhow.
Concrete/steel construction begins to disintegrate
in about 50 years, even faster near salt water -
see the Miami condo collapse. And Soviet concrete -
yuk !!! Find that weird flying-saucer building in
Bulgaria ...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buzludzha_monument

SO, you build 'em, use 'em, then demolish forever.
Really OLD coastal stuff, tough shit Charlie ....
hey, you didn't even know the world was round.

The Netherlands had better come up with a
SERIOUSLY new plan ... either buy parts of
Belgium and Germany or go with the Atlantis
paradigm (which would be cool). Venice ...
glug, glug, glug ... better MOVE all that
arty stuff pronto. Hey, they disassembled
a giant monument to Pharaoh Ramses-II and
moved it, so it CAN be done .....

Social cohesion/identity ... in most 'western' nations ...
is at a fatal low IMHO. Too many have gone sociopathic
and/or imagine that life will go on fine regardless.

As such, I see this as the END. "Western civ" - it's
history/ideals/philosophies/visions - have reached
a terminal phase. 2500 years - the Giant Flushing
Sound. I do not LIKE it, but this is what I'm
seeing now. All accomplished in the past 50/60
years apparently. Wow.

Back to the 9th century. Start over. No results
but pain assured.

Yep, all green protesters wanting to kill all industry
many of those do not even know how to connect a light bulb
or wonder why they are there alive and well BECAUSE of industry..
Those will likely wind up in grass huts when climate changes a bit more
(climate changes because of Milankovich cycles and variations in the sun's emission)
not much because of us producing CO2
Brainwashed by Al Gore and his polar bears jive.
But new crap must be sold..
Until nobody of the new generation knows how to make a power plant..

Strange, here they are insulating houses

I asked : why insulate when it get ever warmer?
Why not put an airco in it, older people die of over-heating!
No clear answer.
If we do not arm ourselves with technology we will NOT as species be able to live where we do now
Mass migration is already happening, but few places will remain habitable.
Many will die, what will be left of the species?
(poly-tics is in the reply too).
