The FAA is having computer problems. The news people said flights could be grounded until 10 am. presumably eastern standard time.

I just looked at Flight Aware. Quite a few flights are in the air
though, no new ones taking off. Many east coast airports are having
delays anyway.

I turned on the r adio when I got up a while ago, in the middle of the
story, and thought it might be some terrorist threat. Glad it's just
the computers.

Also military planes are still flying, and one other kind, though I
don't know if Flight Aware shows them. I hope not.

Back up but still a lot of delays and cancellations, many weather
related. I've not had to fly in a while and have no plans to either.

PITA in the old days and worse now. A few years ago after increased
security because of 9/11 a marketing manager said he spent all his time
in airports.

Medevac planes are the other group that was not delayed. OTOH organ for
transplant usually go on scheduled airlines, don't they? That doesn't
mean there were any this morning.

A friend pointed something out to me this afternoon. When I was flying
back in the '80s a NOTAM was a Notice to Airmen. It is now Notice to Air
Missions.

https://www.faa.gov/about/initiatives/notam/what_is_a_notam

"Changed the acronym NOTAM from Notice to Airmen to the more applicable
term Notice to Air Missions, which is inclusive of all aviators and
missions."

Is this fucking shit ever going to cease?

Nope. And its been going on for decades now.

Some of our Police Forces changed their names to Police Service.

Ours are state based.

Training Facilities for Criminal Behavior would be closer. I'm not saying
some people come out better than they went in but they are a minority, at
least in the US.

To me, flying isn't a PITA at all. Most weeks, I fly out on Sunday
afternoon or evening, taking a multi-hop flight to city A. Midweek, I
take a multi-hop flight to city B. Friday evening, or sometimes on
Saturday morning, I take a multi-hop flight back home. On Sunday, it all
starts again. Week to week, city A and city B are nearly always
different.

With airline loyalty and the resulting perks, plus TSA PreCheck to whiz
through security, I'm not annoyed at all. It helps that I earn full pay
while I'm traveling, but that's gravy.

Good for you if you like it. I've been stuck enough in airports that I
avoid it when possible.

Most weeks? Not the life I want.

Airports aren't my life. It's just how I get to work. Some people drive,
some take a train, I fly. It's the only way to get where I need to go
and arrive when I need to be there. You're retired; when I retire I
won't miss flying, but for now it's fine. I have no problem with it.
It's fast and easy.

Especially since you get paid while you do it. I probably couldn't do
your main job but I know how to ride in a plane. Does your firm have
any openings for that part of your job?

Some of the new hirees will need boots and hats. The air marshals are being diverted to the
border patrol. One thing I noticed is only 5% of flights had a marshal on planes before. It's down to 1% if the article is correct.

Wasn't the air marshal program started to prevent another 9/11? The marshal
was supposed to take down the bad guys if they tried anything.
