I remember it but never paid it much attention even as a kid. Well, the other night Topo Gigo was on the show. He was on Ed Sullivan's arm, talking with Ed and cracking jokes. I was amazed at how real it looked. I googled it. I wondered how they did it. Turns out Topo Gigo was a 10" puppet operated by 4 different men behind a black screen along with its creator who was a woman, and a guy who does the voice. 6 different people went into working that thing. Pretty incredible. And funny that as a kid I didn't give a shit about it, but how now as an adult I found it quite amazing, especially stacked up against all the CGI bullshit they're using today.

I used to talk with Kip Addotta on the phone. He was funny mostly when he didn't know it. If I laughed he'd go, "What?", as if something were sneaking up on him. I'd have to explain it was the way he said it. But it was funny the way he went on against Anka. He worked with Anka. They did not mix. He says it's that way with most touring acts with openers or whatever they're called. Kip told me they were working Atlantic City. They stayed in separate hotels only 2 blocks from the casino they worked. Kip said Anka took the 2 block flight in a helicopter, landing on the casino roof. Maybe he exaggerated the distance they lived from the casino, I don't know and I don't care. It was funny the animosity he felt for Anka. I was never an Anka fan. I'm amazed that they exist. So you googled "my way", huh? Funny. Now I feel like I have to google it too.

Wow. Yeah, it's funny. I clicked through the initial link. It was mostly a site for Sinatra's music in general. I knew Frank had done Paul's song, and so did The King himself, the great Elvis. And they both did it their way. Fucking incredible. Everyone needs to do this song. Everyone. Put them on file, like at FBI headquarters or whatever - something for the "truth listeners" to use when studying a person, like a criminal or someone who is under surveillance for some reason. What if the song was designed to kill whoever does it and makes a no 1 hit of it? Anka never reached no 1 but Frank and Elvis did. That is what is meant by his way.

I guess you weren't in touch with the media today or you'd already know that Paul Anka died late last night of a massive heart attack in his home. He survived the initial attack and stayed alive long enough for family and friends to gather by his bedside where they watched him die peacefully - his way. Yes, he died his way - and they laughed theirs.

Anka is Lebanese just like me, only not as good. I am only half Lebanese. I am 1/4 Austrian and 1/4 Irish. The mixture is hard to beat. The best of the world. With Austria I get a touch of Adolph. Psychiatrists are sicko, all of them. People who go to them are sick too, of course. You would not make a good shrink because you've got your number one patient all wrong. I do not love myself. I hate my own guts. I always have. But yes, there are times when I love myself too. Usually for something I've done of high ethical value, like a job well done and feeling proud about it and loving myself for being a really honest Joe. I look at myself sometimes with pride, knowing I am doing the right thing by being myself. But I do not love myself. I want to but am afraid it might lead to a large head. And that's the last thing I want, to be an egotist. I detest egotistical types.
