It's incredible. What I want to say would be easier to demonstrate than to explain with words alone, but I'll try. One time on a really slow day with hardly anyone on the midway I saw Wayne look out to see a guy coming from 50 yards away. As the guy walked by Wayne yelled, "Excuse me, can I ask you a question?" The guy put up his hand and waved no, moving on. But not fast enough. Wayne yelled, "I just want to ask you a question", to which the guy replied, "I'm not playing." Wayne said, "No no, it's not about the game", and the guy walked over to our tent. It was the basket game. Ever see that one? You have to toss 3 softballs into one basket without any bouncing out. When demonstrated by the carnie who is trying make it look easy he puts two balls in the basket to dull it's bounce capacity. Then he gives the ball to "the mark" and says, "Go ahead." But in the meantime he has taken the other two balls out of the basket. Even if the guy makes one, it is instantly removed with the carny saying, "Ok, that's one - two more to go."

So Wayne says, "No, I just want to ask you a question - it's not about the game", and the guy comes over and Wayne sticks his hand out as if looking for a shake. When the guy extends his arm Wayne grabs his hand and puts a softball into then begins to gently swing the guy's wrist back and forth, his own arm guiding the guy's motions. "See how easy it is", he says, adding, "Ok, let it go." The ball stays in the basket. He keeps it in. The guy is then able to make the other two stick in the basket. But that was a dry run. Now once he pays Wayne never allows two balls to stay in the basket at one time. It was incredible the way the guy said, "I'm not playing", and Wayne said, "No, it's just a question - it's not about the game", then handing the guy the ball and asking, "Have you ever tried it?", while working his wrist almost like a hypnotist. Sure, he only got 2 or 3 bucks out of the guy but it was incredible. I can respect that Wayne was very good at what he did without respecting what he did. He was an asshole actually. Obviously the guy who got pulled in by Wayne wanted to be taken in some way.. The old "You don't get conned unless you're looking for something for nothing" routine.
