https://phys.org/news/2023-08-americans-nasa-dont-prioritize-people.html

Most Americans support NASA but don't think it should prioritize
sending people to space.

.. . .

Humans HAVE A PLACE in "space". However automation
can do a LOT of interesting stuff for a LOT cheaper.

So, clearly, there needs to be a sane balance here,
with budgets/results in mind.

Moon/Mars bases ? Well, HUMANS should not be building
them. It should all be semi/fully-auto bots. For the
moon you can use some telepresence, but Mars is too
far away to make that practical. The IDEA is that
when humans arrive they should find the Mars Hilton
so to speak - all pre-built.

Ya know, there's been a lot of research into how
certain insects - ants/termites - manage to build
robust/efficient structures even though individually
they have an IQ of about 0.01. THAT "mentality" is
what we want to build Mars bases. THEN we move in.

As for real HUMAN STUFF in space ... well ... where's
the "warp drive" or equivalent hmm ??? It's all kind
of boring stuff unless we can REALLY get "out there".
Einie suggests there's nothing beyond light speed -
which is seriously TOO SLOW. He MAY be totally right
alas. In that case we're effectively limited to THIS
solar system - and so are all "aliens". Do consider
this .......
