(mostly) English

One root can have 20 or 100 descendants
and several suitable 5-letter descendants
and so this puzzle may have 3 or 4 good answer-sets

This beats my meagre talents. I get a possible answer, but then can't
reconcile it with any other. I think I'll have to pass.
