There are stairwells at the ends of every hallway in this building. From one stairwell to the other is 120 steps. There and back is 240 steps. There is a bench outside both stairwells. Last night I waked the 240 steps 10 times, taking a break by sitting on the bench for 20 seconds between 'reps'.. It was nothing but it hurt. Still I was able to do it. Maybe this back/leg thing will leave on its own. Maybe it will come back again. Walking in pain makes me breathe differently. Each step creates a moan - not so much last night though - and with each moan I am taking a breath. So even this small bit of movement makes me breathe kind of hard. This is revolutionary. A new way of exercising to the max without over doing it. Each week make yourself progressively weak in some way so that even the smallest effort requires aerobic output. Smoke a cigaret or two before each outing. Anything to make it slightly tougher so you won't have to do as much but will still suffer just as much and accrue over time the same benefits of idiots who have to put way more needless effort into their workouts. I am going to adopt this new moderate way of doing things in life across the board. From now on moderation rules my life. With an iron fist.

Why not get a wheelchair and be done with it? I saw a documentary where
a guy in a wheelchair had a monkey do everything for him, including
wiping his ass. If you don't like monkeys, the state will provide you
with your own Jamaican nurse. (I would go with the monkey; less
attitude) Think about how great life will be when you don't have to do
anything.

LOL, the opening line. I understand. But I am not yet ready for the chair.. You're not going to Hawking my ass into the chair.

As for not having to do anything, that too is one of my top sentiments. Was I was in my 30s I got into jogging. I had quit smoking at age 29 after starting at 11 and putting away 3 packs a day since I turned about 13.

Anyway, when I quit smoking I had to do stuff to keep myself busy to resist the urge. I would take short walks to the Blvd to get two cups of the soup of the day and some bread. It gave me something to do. In about a year I had become ready to jog. It was not my intent though. One day I was walking to work and my body told me to jog. I did. One block, afraid any further might produce a heart attack. Aerobic activity was never a part of my life even though I am a natural athlete and don't you ever forget it.

Anyway, to the point (please).........................I was jogging down the street one night a few years after I got into it and I was counting my steps and looking at the watch as usual. All I wanted was for it to end. I did not like jogging, but I loved that I could do it. I got to 4 miles and that's where I stopped. I figured that's more than enough time. A discipline thing. Plus maybe some vanity.

So I'm pounding the sidewalk and counting the steps and thinking about how much longer this is going to take and I look up ahead and see a guy in a motorized wheelchair coming my way, and I swear to God I muttered, "You're a lucky bastard, you don't have to be doing this." And at the moment if only for a split second I meant it. So I know what you mean about the wheelchair. I see it as the road to a state-run assisted-living facility where mostly Black aides tinged by the ghetto life run the show and just love pushing old people around. So for now, please, I can do without the chair.

I stole a wheelchair once from the Santa Monica Hospital thinking it would be a cool addition to the living room. All it did was take up space. Within a few days it was on the curb in front of someone else's door.

This is why I first suggested the monkey. They're a much more civilized
breed than the negro.

I have this back/leg thing that came from out of nowhere about 2 weeks ago. I force late night walks in the hallway and am feeling better, less of a limp and less ouching along the way - but it's still there. Earlier today I went down to the soda and candy machines to get some stuff, coins only. Standing there putting the coins in the slot is hard on my back, so a few days ago I learned to drag a chair from the lobby and perch it in front of the machine I'm going to use. Doing this today I felt I was in a wheelchair - without wheels. A training chair. I rarely see the manager. But next time I do I'm going to ask if she has any extras around because I'd like to buy one. It's a regular chair but is vinyl. The office chair I use, which someone gave me, may in fact be the culprit behind my back/leg pain. Anyway, it was funny sitting there in that chair putting coins into the machines and thinking, "Ah, so this is what it's like." Of course it's not. It's worse. I know because my mother was in a wheelchair most of her life - lupus and other blood disorders. Eventually she lost one leg, then a few years later the other. I am not saying I cared much about her at the time - I was young and did not want to live in the projects of Yonkers NY which is where she lived due to her condition. Today the chairs are motorized. Looks good, but those fuckers take up a lot of space compared to the old school push the wheels type. A good way to keep the arms in shape.

Pass a wheelchair person on the street yelling encouragement: "Work those arms, man - come on, work 'em."

The pet/slave thing is interesting. Being house broken is important. Seems some animals, even some of the more intelligent ones, just can't learn to keep their shit in order. There are probably some monkeys that have been trained. But as a rule they are very hard to house break and therefore are not good pets unless you like living in a cocoon of caca. Not only would I not want a slave around, I wouldn't even want a maid. No live-ins no matter what. I don't know how people can put up with that, living with something that wants to kill you. Wow, that takes guts, or stupidity, or extreme laziness. Also, I am not phony. I would love to own a slave. Who wouldn't? But taking everything into consideration - the resentment, the plotting, the stealth - it's too dangerous for my blood. I'll admit it, even if slavery were legal I don't think I'd have the courage to own one.

Sew their asshole shut.

People are very imaginative when it comes to torture. I wonder if in our world's history of torture the sewn shut asshole technique has ever been applied. I wonder what would happen. It would be like a tug of war between the turds and whatever sewing material is used. Today we have rugged polyesters capable of withstanding the assault of a month's worth of turd buildup aided by gravity. A month's worth of turds gathered at the gate battering ram style. What a way to die? How long before the breath starts to stink really bad? Not that it would matter, the guy won't be doing any socializing. On those rare occasions when he is able to sleep he dreams of toilets and the good old days when taking a crap was a sadly under appreciated luxury.

Hey, pretty funny, the real life example of your succinct posts vs my long winded ones. When I checked into the group about 20 minutes ago there was only one post. It was from Judith. I spent some time with that one and saw a post from you come through. I finished typing my shit to Judith. When I was done and came out I saw the board was nearly filled. In the time I took to put out a single post to Judith you had already posted your entire wad.

Your short posts inspire my long ones just as my long ones inspire your short ones - and you fucking know it. We are a team whether you like it or not. You could probably make it on your own in the newsgroup world - top of the mountain contender for sure. But the best? I'm not so sure. About either of us. I know I'm great. I know you're great. But are we the best? Separate, I doubt it - together without a doubt.

I was a nobody in the alt standup group. But that was another time and place. Road CD's and best fast food talk. The real important issues. I had nothing to contribute. It was a sad time.

This is your lucky day. There is a vibrant group devoted to such a topic
(alt.food.fast-food). I personally don't contribute to that group but I
do to another, (rec.food.cooking). Unfortunately for me, that group
doesn't seem to appreciate what I post. I think it must be fat
discrimination.

It was a great time. A time of artistic growth and maturity where the Ollie of today got his start in the competitive newsgroup field. Go back and look. Read your old posts to the old group. Yes you will see some horrible stuff from yourself that will make you sick and embarrassed. But you will also see great treasures of art not yet recognized, the kind of greatness that needs time to develop, like a fine wine. I applaud all who posted into the old group, even those who I ridicule to this day. They helped define me, make me what I am today. Same with you.

"All through which you have passed in life sticks to you like a fart starting fresh high up in the digestive system then working it's way down to the exit hole, it's defining aroma picked up along the way from everything through which it passed." --- Gandhi 1923

Why you crafty son of a bitch you. I also post into RFC. I knew there was something familiar sounding about your name. I believe you gave me a hard time in that group a few times. I can't remember. I got along with just about everybody in there. I still go now and then, not often though. I would usually go if I had a question related to making food. Then sometimes the thread would grow and turn into something else and it was anything goes which is what I like. But it's hard to find groups like that. That is why we are the best. Look at our numbers. Small. Very few people. Is that bad? Sure, we want more. But let us never forget the Marine creed - "a few good men" - and it's deep meaning, that we don't need to be popular to be the best because WE ARE THE BEST.
