Neither Russia, nor China should step in. The Palestinian-Israeli issue is a death trap created by the US-led West. It should be the one that is trapped, not others.

It all started after the First World War. A new world order was created by the victorious nations as the League of Nations. Using a might-makes-right approach, the British and French carved out the remnants of the defeated Ottoman Empire among themselves. Territories were marked out at will, Emirs or Sultans were appointed over them, without regard to religious, ethnic or tribal sensitivities. Worse of all, the Brits allowed Jews from the diaspora to return to their long lost homeland. By then, the place has been known as Palestine and inhabited by Arab Muslims for more than a thousand years.

Fights between the Palestinians and Jewish returnees started almost immediately. The Brits took flight, leaving the Jews and the Palestinians to sort things out among themselves. What ensued was a series of wars lasting to this day, with no end in sight.

World sympathies vacillate between the two sides. In 1967, when surrounding Arab nations ganged up against Israel, threatening to drive the Jews into the Mediterranean, the sympathies were for the Israelis. That war was a big victory for Israel. Since then, Israel has the upper hand in later conflicts during which they gained more land from the Arab Muslims. In these later conflicts, when Israeli planes bombed under-armed Palestinians, killing civilians, sympathies swung towards the latter.

The Americans got heavily involved in the ME after the Second World War. With their might-makes-right approach, they dig themselves deeper into the death trap created by the French and British. They have deep military ties with the Israelis. They have caused much deaths and destruction in the Middle East. They invaded Iraq for the wrong reason, fomented rebellion to overthrow the regime in Libya and still trying to do likewise in Syria.

The Americans cannot leave the Middle-East. They have done too much damage and stirred up too much hatred there. What made the US get militarily involved there in the first place? Because of 9/11. 9/11 was the Muslims taking the fight to the Americans homeland. In response, the Americans go in to the Middle-East so that militant Muslims are contained there. If the Americans were to leave, there will be a huge resurgence of anti-US Muslims militancy. These will again take the fight to the US homeland. The US is now in a situation of “stay, you will die; leave, you will die too”.

The Palestine-Israel issue is create by an old world order maintained to this day by the US-led West. More countries getting involved in it will not help. The issue will not go away until a new world order under new leadership comes into being.
