But, as they could have said, it doesn't have to be that way.

Even if a hobby doesn't EARN you any money, it can still SAVE you money. Such as knitting - if you're really good at it. Or learning to cook all the fancy meals you thought you could only get at a restaurant. Or carpentry...

That reminds me of how Amy Dacyczyn said, in the 1990s, that since useful hobbies can be fun or boring, just like useless hobbies, and since so many of us have little spare time, why not choose the hobbies that are both fun and useful - if only so you won't be too short on money in an emergency?

For therapy they suggest such things as knitting, gardening, pet care, exercises.
