The only son of the last King of Italy,
who renounced his claim to the throne and
crown jewels in order to be allowed to
go back to that country,has died...
he had run into various legal troubles
and a rival branch of the dynasty (descended
from Amedeo of Aosta,who briefly tried to
be King of Spain in the 1870s) disputed
his claim to the heirship.

His son Emmanuel Philbert (Emmanuele Filiberto)
has both renounced the claim (in accordance with
current Italian republican law) and promised to
pass it on to his daughter (not allowed under the
past Italian monarchical laws,I believe).
