lean against the wall

This phrase gives two different images, if no context is given.

1) lean backwards against the the wall, or he leans his back against the wall
2) lean forward against the wall, or he hangs on or holds on to the wall, putting his forehead on it.

And, there is a similar expression: "lean on the wall".

What do you say about it?

I say 'lean against the wall' can mean only one thing, but without
context, it may change the the 'image'. Without context, it can mean
leaning on the wall in any of the many ways to lean against the wall.

I have never heard anyone use the phrase 'lean on the wall'.

Funny thing - the picture I immediately come up with has
a person with one shoulder against a wall. Lolling. Trying
to look unthreatening (in a hallway, maybe).

"on the wall" imples a wall that is low enough that your
hands or arms are on the top of it.
