Is that sentence ambiguous?

I see two possible meanings:

a) He is trained to such an extent that he can detect even the faintest
smell of marijuana.

b) He is trained in such a manner that he can detect even the faintest
smell of marijuana.

I think for the second meaning, 'so' would have to be pronounced with
a lot of emphasis in '1'. Then it would be equivalent to:

3) He is trained so, that he can detect even the faintest smell of marijuana.
