I have been watching an excellent series (of four) documentaries by the
BBCs Laura Kuenssberg about the machinations inside number 10 at the
time of Boris Johnson's premiership.

[Here's a YouTube link to one :

The word 'frenemy' was used to describe the plasticine faced Mr. Gove,
a one-time ally of Boris.

To recap:

- Gove ran the Brexit campaign alongside Boris in 2016 and supported his
lies. (accomplice)
- Gove back-stabbed Boris during his first attempt to become PM (post
Teresa May) thus foiling his chances
- Gove was re-hired to be a member of the inner cabinet after Boris'
eventual election as PM
- Gove walked away from the Boris government when it was collapsing,
pretending he had no part in Boris' machinations.

Is 'frenemy' an adequate word for such behaviour?

I had had the idea that we were in the same year at Wadham, and the
fact that he was 80 when he died would agree with that. I wouldn't have
recognized him from his picture.

A friendly wave from across Parks Road. If we're on the topic of
Brexitwats, I can confirm that Jacob Rees Mogg was as much an utter tit
in his late teens as he has been since. He might be the best known
person from that year, but I think anyone in Trinity would want to swap
places with him.

Well, his father was prominent at that time, so we know where Jacob got
his tittiness from. He (the father) was said to be the model for
Somerset Lloyd-James in the novels of Simon Raven: he was certainly
just as obnoxious.

Across the road we weren't very keen on Trinners. Too many public
school prats. Nick Kuenssberg and I were from public schools, but we
were in a minority. We thought of Trinners as like Christ Church
without the good features of Christ Church. Lots of yobs at Wadham on
the other hand, so I don't suppose most of the chaps at Trinners were
keen on us.

Trinity had changed a fair bit by the late 80s, lots more normies, not a
strong public school influence at all. I may be slightly biased as I had
put Wadham as my first choice college on application, and strangely
maintained a soft spot for it, but I never noticed much rivalry. Perhaps
just in a few of the noisier sports teams. It was Bloody Balliol that we
had a real issue with. And we all know what disgrace of a recent prime
minister, and disgrace of a human being generally, was a Balliol boy.
