Grammatically, only 4 is correct, and the others wrong.

Agreed.

In my AmE, they're equally natural and have somewhat different meanings.
With "should" it might mean only that solving it himself would be better.
Without it, she's making him solve the problem himself.

The whole sentence would be more natural without "Alice".
