What to do

Look at the fixtures below: do you play home or away?

*Home*
- Before Thursday (= before 2023/5/8, 23:59 GMT)
=- Pick one team from each of the two matches, in order of preference

*Away*
=- After Wednesday (or even sooner, if the home player has picked their
teams) and before kickoff of the first match on Saturday 2023/5/11
- Pick one of the teams not picked by your opponent (if they haven't picked
any team, you have free choice; if she is Lassie and there is a tie,
disregard the last vote)
=- their opponents will represent your opponent

*ATTENTION: NEW RULE*: If the away player doesn't pick any team before
his/her deadline, the home player will be represented by the team that
achieves the best outcome out of his/her two picked teams.
If the home player doesn't pick any team before his deadline, the away
player can pick two teams (one from each match), and he/she will be
represented by the team that achieves the best outcome out of his/her two
picked teams.

If nobody picks a team, teams are assigned randomly.

I pick Vancouver and Seattle Sounders. I have 100 reasons to pick these
teams, but none of them is related to football (1 I want to minimize the
distance between the picks, 2 I grew up with the Seattle sound, 3...).

Forge has to travel three time zones, so going Homer makes sense. And Toronto, because fortunately I avoided picking Bernardeschi in FS.

Herdman does seem to have improved Toronto and they tend to do well at
home. Insigne might even be back, I read.

Your logic about travel and home advantage is impeccable. Except that
Pacific has further to travel and one day fewer of rest.
They play in Ottawa in the Canadian Championship tomorrow.
Forge played at home vs. Montreal today (1-1 draw).

I don't like praising my second biggest rival's picks, but if it means
contradicting my biggest rival...

Bernardeschi scored 45 points in FS. You picked just two players who
scored more than that in the 3rd cycle, one who scored basically the
same amount of points (Florenzi 51) and *nine* who scored fewer points.

Had you picked Bernardeschi, you could even have a chance to win the cycle!

(Futbolmetrix will win the 3rd cycle, but I like to make him doubt that)

As someone once said, the FS scoring rule is genial, but it is far from perfect.
Having had to endure the sight of Bernardeschi at Juve for way too long, I can safely say that I'm perfectly happy to sacrifice Cycle 3 glory for the knowledge that at least I didn't pick that useless goat.

Oh, and about Cycle 3 glory: sometimes the dazzling runner-ups are more fondly remembered than the dreary winners.

For some reason I thought I was the away pick and was waiting
for the 'home' pick to be made. But I would have gone Toronto
and Pacific if I had realised sooner that I was supposed to go
first. <face palm>
