Several India virus variants have found its way into many countries already.

Now many countries are banning dark-skinned people from entering their
country.

People from India, Pakistan, Bangladeshi, Sri Lanka are banned from travel
and transit to many countries.

The US, as much as India itself, is responsible for what is happening in India today. Here’s why.

To begin with, with a huge and heterogeneous population, India is not an easy country to govern. Since its independence, India has all along been a poorly governed nation, at times on the brink of a failed state. It is a nation with many weaknesses. But every dog has its day.

Since the close of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st, the world has been through a tectonic change in geopolitics. It witnesses the rise of China, which makes the US feels uncomfortable. As China continues on its rise, that feeling of discomfort changes to one of threat. The US now feels strongly about the threat of China. It looks for a good counterweight to balance China. It found India.

With a population size second only to China, being nuclear powered and has border disputes with China, India is closest to the perfect counterweight against China. India becomes the new darling of the US. Over the past years, especially during the Trump Presidency, India becomes US strategic partner in areas such as military, economics and geopolitics. Most of all the Americans expect Indians to embrace the core American values of democracy, freedom and human rights. The Indians lap them all up.

India is patted on the back of its head like a good dog by the US. US politicians and media heap praises on India. This boost India’s self-confidence immensely. It takes on a new image with a new shine – a sparkling new shine which hides all the rots behind it. All the dirt were swept under the carpet. Indians were dazzled and mesmerised by the brightness. Their time has come, they believe. Their Mother India is on its way to become a superpower. Deluded with grandness and greatness, Indians become blind to all the weaknesses of their nation.

It takes only one disease to bring down this house of cards, with a rude awakening. That’s exactly what the COVID-19 has done to an India under US influence.

Besides American values, India’s Hindu power has also contributed to the present plights of India. The ruling BJP is a Hindu-based party. Its political ideology is Hindu nationalism. or Hindutva. Modi attributes the good fortune experienced by India under his leadership to Hindu gods. He believes India is being brightened up by a divine light..

Hindu Indians consider Modi to be a demi-god. They believe their demi-gods and gods will protect them from the virus. To give thanks to their gods, a pandemic notwithstanding, Hindu religious festivals are celebrated in big ways for devotees to make offerings to their gods. While Hindu India celebrates, the virus spreads.

India today is a victim of the Western values of Democracy, Freedom and Human Rights and religious zeal. Because of democracy, elections are held in the midst of a pandemic and election rallies become super-spreader events. The belief in wanton rights and individual freedom makes Indians challenge and defy the order for social distancing and wearing of mask, just like it is in the West. Because of religious superstitions, science is cast aside. Religious faith takes over.

The world can now see for itself. The US, that beacon on the hill, is worst hit by the pandemic. Its close allies such as Europe, Brazil and India, that it shines brightly on, fare no better. Together, they form the nations worst hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. China, one of those few nations which has not adopted American values, and run a different model and system from that of the US, has done a much better job in managing the pandemic. This is no coincidence. Its a reflection of the defects in the values of Western-style democracy, freedom and human rights.

From now on, nations which the US preached to and pressured to embrace US values should take a lesson from this pandemic. After this COVID-19 catastrophe is over, if India is still in one piece, it should consider adopting alternative values. Authoritarianism may serve such a populous and heterogeneous nation as India better than Western-style democracy.

Indians have no sense of gratitude. In this second wave of the of pandemic, China was one of the first to offer help. The US only comes in later, in competition against China. This Indian woman only give thanks to all others except China.

She complains that the Chinese jack up their price to profit from the plights facing India. In India, Indian racketeers are making much bigger profits through black market sales of oxygen, medicine like Remdisivir, ambulance services, even the wood for pyres!

She next complains that Chinese goods are of poor quality. Yet she complains that the Chinese have stopped sending goods to India. If the goods are of low quality, why still crave for them?

She is a typical Indian. One who makes a living out of talking and writing, not making anything which is useful. There are many like her in India. That is why India is so short of goods of all sorts.

She should not forget what she had previously written about China.

Indians should be reminded that when China was struck hard by the pandemic, India stopped exporting masks to China when they were most needed. Even the cotton that were to be used in making the masks was stopped from going to China.
