Hollywood actress Judy Farrell has died at the age of 84, TMZ shared on Tuesday.

She passed on Sunday in a hospital after suffering from a massive stroke nine days prior, the site reported.

The star was best known for working on the long-running smash-hit TV series MASH, about the Mobile Army Surgical Hospital care for the injured during the Korean War.

As I suspected, she played a nurse. At no point was she ever a star of
MASH. For convenience, the writers always designated nurses by NATO
alphabet as they were not characters, just bit parts. If anyone ever
watched MASH, he'd know it wasn't about the nurses, except for exactly
one episode in which they made terrible fudge in their tents against
Army regulations. I don't recall who played nurses in that episode, but
that's the only time they ever had lines other than "Yes, doctor".

An obit is supposed to tell us something about the person who died.
Absurd exaggerations like this tell us nothing more than this is
terrible writing.

Yes, and there were quite a few other episodes as well where nurses had noteworthy scenes.

Sure, the episode "Edwina" (1972) was little more than slapstick, but anything based on "Lysistrata" has to be worth seeing.

"Hanky Panky" (1977) was truly touching.

And I can think of at least four episodes (not counting "Inga," which was about a woman doctor) where the nurses got to look down on Hawkeye and his attitudes toward women. Yes, one was "Hey, Look Me Over."

Of course, most - all? - of them happened after Trapper left in 1975 and Hawkeye didn't have as much frat-boy backup anymore.

Oh. That episode. Then I should have said that "Nurse Able", "Nurse
Baker", and "Nurse Charlie" were designations of convenience for nurses
who weren't characters but bit parts.

I still think the bad fudge episode in which the nurses had lines and
were actually small parts, they were still Able, Baker, and Charlie, but
I'm not re-watching.

So her real life, but not her image, was the basis for an off-screen
character. I probably assumed at the time that B.J.'s lines described
Mike Farrell's own life.

But almost never did writers use the names Nurses Able, Baker, and Charlie
for other than bit parts. If the nurse was a small role, the nurse
probably had a name.

Neither you nor Danny are arguing that I got it wrong, that she
shouldn't have been described as a "star", and that her appearances on
MASH were bit parts and not small roles.

up there with forgetting Raquel Welch's "wet suit" scene

Houlihan wasn't a nurse but a supervising nurse, obviously, not one of
the Able-Baker-Charlies; Loretta Swit was one of the stars.

The actress wasn't a star. I'd prefer to read a proper obituary. It
would have been more interesting.
