Fiddler on the Roof star Chaim Topol passes away at 88

Chaim Topol is well-known for his role as Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof for
which he won a Golden Globe.

Chaim Topol, known worldwide for his role as Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof,
passed away at 88 on Wednesday.

Topol was born in Tel Aviv in 1935 where he attended elementary and primary
school. During this time, Topol was part of the Religious Scouts and The
Working Youth. As a member of the latter, Topol worked in Davar's printing
house.

Oh, that's sad. I certainly enjoyed his performance in the movie,
although when he was first cast on the stage in Israel in 1966, two
decades younger than Tevye. He was cast because he could play older.

As it happens, I just watched him in For Your Eyes Only (1981).

My LSW and I saw him in his "final tour", about fifteen
years ago. Which meant he was in his early 70's.

And he played the role perfectly.

I know that an actress who played a daughter of his in the movie
played his wife in a later theatrical tour...

can anyone think of any other such cases of "thespian incest"
(performers playing related characters in one version of a story
and then also other related characters in another of the same
who would be consanguineous in coupling if the two relationships
coexisted)?

She did for some years understate her age by six years.
(The World Almanac long dated her to 1896,but she claimed to
be three years younger and the truth was apparently the opposite,
meaning her vanity nearly cheated her of a centennial).

Have any Western acting dynasties gone on for more generations
than the Lane/Drew/Barrymores?
(I think some Japanese Kabuki or Noh clans have gone for centuries).
