Looks like it's just you and me now Bozo. Just the way I always wanted it - one on one, mano y mano, toe to toe, face to face, eyeball to eyeball, fist to fist.

As you may have read, Ollie is heading to Colorado to visit his brother (I think he's lying, but we'll address that later), and may not post for a while. He gave fair warning, I'll give him that.

Now it's you and me. Can we keep this place alive? This is your opportunity Bozo. Your chance to move in and take over Ollie's spot. You can be my Ed MacMahon. Actually, that's not fair. They show Carson reruns here at night and I think MacMahon is funnier than Carson although I would not have paid to see them perform at anything when they were alive. Even if I were paid to watch them perform it would have to be a large amount. So please, let's skip the Carson reference - sorry I mentioned it.

So what's it going to be Bozo, are we going to learn how to get along or are we going to have a final showdown pro-wrestling style with the loser having to leave town forever. This is my town Bozo. I am willing to share it. Let's say it is our town. There was a famous book out once, I think over a hundred years ago - made it into a movie I think - called "Our Town." I read the book The author was very prescient as throughout the book there were references to me and you and Ollie. He was talking us - this place - our town!

Get the fuck out of Dodge

I am on the road. In Westcliffe Colorado. Look it up. Learn about it. I am putting it on the map.

Quite a trip so far. Seeing a lot of road. Ask me about it.

I am asking you about it. I still want to know, are you driving alone? When I read stuff from someone on the road I want to imagine it the way it really is. I need more info. You seemed to get there quick. However, as one who owns but rarely uses a cellphone I keep forgetting today when we get a call we really have no idea where the caller is at just that moment. I get "Ollie" on the caller ID (which I do not always look at), and I picture him at home in Florida. And it's not just you, it's anybody with a cellphone - I often picture them somewhere else than where they're really at. They could be in a super market. They could be in the middle of traffic jam. They could be out in the middle of nowhere wiping their hands and body clean of the blood that spurted from their latest serial killing victims.

Got time? Use a map book and take a smaller road. I did that coming back to Winston from DC. I got to Richmond and was sick of the interstate. I looked in the map book and saw Route 360 which looked really small on the map compared to the large blue arteries denoting interstates. I pictured going through every small town in the state with cops just waiting for any kind of mistake. But I took that road. It was incredible. It did not go through a single town. It was not an interstate but was set up the same way, a small beltway going around even the smallest towns. Less traffic too. Those big multi-laned highways serve a purpose I suppose, but as a rule they depress and even anger me.

"I'm telling you Officer, the guy was wound tight. I mean he was all I-95'd up."

I am with my girlfriend. I do all the driving. Been on all kinds of roads.. Drove up through Louisiana the long way. Never been up that way. Across the top of Texas up through New Mexico. Now in Southern Colorado. Saturday going to Yellowstone in Wyoming. Yes this is one big road trip. Probably my last. Staying in motels is getting expensive. Gas is 3.46 here.

Saw some buffalo. Wanted to kill them. I feel like Buffalo Ollie.

Somehow I was taken once to an internet site which listed the 10 most dangerous animals on earth and the buffalo was one of them. Imagine taking one out with a bow and arrow, old Indian style. I wonder how far their bows could shoot an arrow back then. Probably not very far, but I don't know for sure. A group of humans armed only with spears cornering a large beast is interesting. Even the tribe's leader is involved in the hunt. Seems the further back we go the leaders were a more obvious and genuine part of their tribe. Not so today. But we brought that on ourselves, plus I don't care.. Pretty funny, your last line. I see the words on a postcard sent back home from a kid to one of his parents who didn't go along on the trip. "Saw a few buffalo today. Wanted to kill them. Enjoying the trip. Will be home soon. Bye for now."

Yeah yeah I get it, but what about Mt. Rushmore? Is it too far out of the way? If you go I want a turd report, if possible lap-topped out to me directly from the shadows of the majestic monolith itself. I want to feel like I am there with you as your turds roll free in the clean invigorating air of the badlands of Dakota. As the spirit of Crazy Horse gazes down on you from on high I am sure your turds will roll free as never before. You just gotta believe. I heard Crazy Horse was heavy into studying his turds. But without a doubt the best Indian shitter ever was Sitting Bull. He was so named because he was one of the few Indians of his time to actually sit when he took a shit. Most only squatted. He went all the way down. And his turds were huge, bigger even than those of the heftiest bulls. Even bigger than buffalo turds. They were going to name him Sitting Buffalo but they didn't care for the sound of it, it was too long, so they shortened it to 'Bull'. But for now, under the shadow of the majestic monument with the Spirit of Crazy Horse to guide you, I ask you to squat low and concentrate on his presence and I am sure you will see a turd emerge to rival and beat out even the best of your Chi-town turds. Please get back with me on this.

Even if I were paid to watch them perform it would have to be a large amount. So please, let's skip the Carson reference - sorry I mentioned it.

I read the book The author was very prescient as throughout the book there were references to me and you and Ollie. He was talking us - this place - our town!

As an added incentive, the winner can claim me as their trophy. The
thought of two macho men doing battle with me as the prize is such a
turn-on. I know you're up to the task, but is Bozo?

Oh I am up to the task all right, but I am not about to fight for a trophy for all things when right now I probably wouldn't even fight for my life. Survival is too much work, must we turn our down time into chores as well? I remember a girl named Jill I had living with me for a time. She was a drunk/druggie all the way - all the way up to when she died from it. Anyway, I liked her as a person - she had a good sense of humor. She also had a large mouth. She would get into arguments with guys at the poolroom and try to shout them down, sometimes in insulting ways. I remember one time she was going at it pretty heavy with a guy when I got up and said, "You're on your own", before walking out. I would never fight for a trophy. Or over a woman. I am a real pussy that way. It takes a real man to be a real pussy. Remember that.

Bozo is up for every task. He loves conflict. As long as he thinks there's something in it for him he's willing to give it a shot. Now, just how much he's willing to put into it, that I cannot say.

> With your girlfriend eh? — Does she know she's been reduced to a Beard?

I was going to comment on it myself but backed off, afraid of getting on the nerves of our probably already super duper hyped up road-weary home-sick this was fun but it's gone on long enough newsgroup mate, well aware from past experiences that vacations can be work and that coming home and learning how to stay there and just shut the fuck up and be grateful for what you've got instead of always looking for more on the long winding road leading to the middle of a big fat ponderosa of nothing. I decided to give Ollie a break. Besides, I figured if anybody was going to bring up his girlfriend it would be you Bozo. I played it cool and it worked out. I like Ollie's even more macho comment, "I am doing all the driving", as if he's not giving up that wheel no matter how tired he gets, even if it means he has to sleep while he's driving, taking one, two, sometimes as many as 10 seconds of shut eye at a time at 80 MPH with the girlfriend once again saying, 'NO really, if you're tired, I don't mind driving", to which the super macho newsgroup king pin replies, "I'm driving this train all the way to the end of the line, and if you don't want to see that line anytime soon I'd advise you to shut your mouth and go back to sleep and let Big Daddy run the show if you know what's good for you."

I know what he means though. I had a lot of trouble sleeping with other people driving. It would take me a while to gauge their worthiness, then if I felt more secure I might be able to catch a few Zs. Otherwise the wheel was mine, even if was someone else's car. I am a wheel man.

I drove for over 24 hours with a 2 hour nap at hour 20. It is fucking dangerous. Swore I would not do it. I got stuck in traffic twice which blew my schedule so I when it was motel finding time it was too late in the evening. Well I should have taken the one in Chattanooga. But it looked like Negroes might have been around. They have a MLK blvd. Every city has one.. St Louis has a fucking MLK bridge.

I thought I saw them coming over the MLK Bridge. "Them?, who are 'them'?" I don't know who they are, man - all I know is what they tell me. "What do they tell you?"

"They tell me to 'Say their names'........". That's all they say over and over again - "Say their names", their whips cracking in the air, field hand commanders barking loud all the way down the line stretching for miles, "Say their names, say their motha fucking names."

I hope you enjoyed your trip but must confess I am looking forward to hearing about some unpleasantries along the way. You know, the type of unpleasantries that further bolster the truth everyone knows within, that the best vacations usually involve going nowhere. I love driving though. Unhurried. Not on anyone else's schedule, not totally anyway. I think the best time to travel is when you're young - or old with a lot of real time on your hands. Too many people missed out, in my book - going straight from school to the workplace. Those years were meant to be wasted. I am grateful for the years I wasted when I was young.

Man, you been everywhere, covered a lot of ground in a short span. Bucket list type stuff, funny - like Bob and Bill setting out with lists setting out to do a bunch of shit and getting grouchy because they're running out of time and are now arguing over what they're going to do next until it gets really heated up and they attack each other and Bob kills Bill before dying of a heart attack and is then found by cops with his bucket list sitting on his chest, everything on the list checked off, including the final wish: "Kill Bill!" Then Bill's bucket list is checked by the cops who discover his final wish was to kill Bob. They both had the same final wish and in an odd way it came true.

My bucket is empty. I have done what I wanted to do. Sure at one time there were a few things I would have liked to do or see but not important now.. I am not greedy. I have seen plenty.

If money were no issue I would love a cross country motor trip, stopping here and there in different towns, maybe taking a walk in each new town. But it's not necessary. I always thought I'd go back to L.A. About 20 years ago I bought a roundtrip bus ticket but it expired on me. It seems now it could be more a hassle than anything. But if money were no object I wouldn't mind the drive. Then a few weeks in L.A., maybe a month, before returning - or dying there, who knows?

As I was traveling last week I would pass a town out in the farm areas and many had the old main streets with the antique buildings. I would like to take time and walk around them. Real old time America. Hope they have wifi.

I guess it's hard to recapture for anybody, but taking old roads and going where the wind blows is a nice thing probably to be experienced at a younger age but still available to those who want it today. I don't care what anyone says, if I had somewhere to go and hitch hiking were my only means I'd get there. People still pick you up. I can understand people being leery of it from both ends. But with your own car and nothing but time, yes, scrap the itinerary and just roll with it. At the same time some of my most memorable travels came when I had no money and and had to roll with it. Cash in hand is a groovy thing for the road. But it can also lure you to motels and other safe peripheral tourista locations that could serve to destroy the free wheeling serendipity factor of your factors. Plan nothing. Good. Now go. Go out unto the world and learn. Then get back to me.

I would be very leery of hitch hiking. My brother Joshua, only 18 at the
time, set out for a cross country adventure back in 2012. He left our
home in Williamsburg, Brooklyn on the morning of August 1st for his trip
to the great North-West. He was on the corner of Broadway with his thumb
out for a ride when someone in a yellow Volkswagen Beetle picked him up.
To make a long story short, his corpse was found 3 days later under the
Williamsburg Bridge with an old-fashioned hat rack protruding from his
asshole. They never did find his killer. Father was never the same after
that; he became addicted to crack cocaine and had to steal to support
his habit. Needless to say, he has spent the last 9 years in Attica and
eagerly awaits his parole hearing scheduled for October. To this day
when ever one of us Lathams want to hitch hike, we take a 9mm with us.
Just in case.

I know who did it. Leif had a yellow VW. He must have stored it for the last 40 years. Did your brother smell like a swedish meatball?

I thought you were serious till you got to the part about the old fashioned hat rack sticking out of his asshole. Even then I wondered if maybe it was still true and you were beyond trying to describe it politely anymore. It had become "just the truth" to you. Then I read further and determined the story to be a fake. I was glad because I still say hitchhiking is pretty safe. Sure, I could tell a few times I may have got lucky. But the same could be said about life in general on a day to day basis. How close did you come to dying only yesterday? Today? An hour ago? Just now, this very minute? Well? Thank your lucky stars you're still alive. Be grateful, that's my motto - learned from hitchhiking my way North, South, East, and mother fucking West this great big this land is your land, this land is my land, ribbon of highway I love so dearly that I will kill anyone who puts it down in any way.

> I know who did it. Leif had a yellow VW. He must have stored it for the last 40 years. Did your brother smell like a swedish meatball?

Describing the vehicle is funny, interesting. How much about it can you remember from one sighting alone? ...... "Ok, it was yellow. It was a Volkswagen, I remember that for sure. One window was partly smashed, I remember that as well."

I saw a Dragnet last night that was pretty funny. Friday had to pull his gun on a punk in a laundromat. He was forced to use it which meant he had to face the policy board. He was asked to describe the incident. They made him look like a genius beyond Sherlock Holmes. He remembered everything. Described how it went down for the board.

"White 'Cauc', mid 30s, yellow sweater, brown pants, black shoes - a 38 for sure, black, two empty chambers. He fired once. I returned fire. He escaped. I pursued. When I got to the door he was getting into a car. A yellow Volks. Brown seats, 63 or 64. A girl behind the wheel. Blonde. Could have been a wig. Brown eye brows. Couldn't see deeper into the vehicle other than that. California plates - C49J63. Slightly dented rear fender.. More exhaust than normal. Driver and passenger laughing maniacally." ...... The description was incredible. A Sherlock Holmes rival for sure.

Every word I write is true, so help me God. Do you think for a second
that we too weren't curious about the hat rack? Why did he use such an
old-fashioned one? There are many nice, modern looking hat racks
available these days. We've always wondered if that was some sort of
message. It did make the whole story seem strange.

It's possible, I don't remember what we had for dinner the night before.
Josh had a habit of shitting his pants. Mother never had the time to
properly toilet train him as a baby. She had us 15 children, plus
Dad,Grandma and out boarder Tom, living in a 5 room railroad apartment.
Things could get hectic and easily forgotten. Josh was a casualty of

Mother was looking out our 4th floor apartment window when she witnessed
Josh getting into the Volkswagen. No mother could forget something like
that, unless of course she had dementia.

VW's were designed by Hitler. This is why Jews like them. Freud had one and he did not even drive.

Too bad this didn't happen today. We have amber alerts now. All kinds of security. Your brother would still be alive today had he been born into a more modern and security oriented society.
