As translated by IGN, Klein originally posted the photo with the caption,
"Closest photo of Proxima Centauri, the star that's closest to the sun,
located 4.2 light years away from us. It was taken by the [James Webb Space
Telescope]. This level of detail...a new world is revealed day after day.
According to the contemporary cosmology, no object belonging to Spanish
charcuterie exists anywhere but on Earth... the photo was a chorizo."

from Middle French chaircuiterie

no known etymology other than Spanish in origin

I always thought that 'charcuterie' meant barbecuing or something similar. I never knew that it meant just cold cuts.

Well, not quite just.
There is a cultural difference here though.
If you order a 'plateua de charcuterie' in France
you are likely to get a plateau with eh well, charcuterie.
(and some minor embellishments, like a few olives perhaps)

If you order 'carcuterie' in Anglosaxonia
you may get a plate with so many embelishments
that you will have to search for the cut meat,

Your spelling has really deteriorated.

If you order charcuterie in the US, you will get funny looks.
There's a series of TV commercials (I think from Lidl, which
is trying to establish itself) showing people ordering things
that are not normally stocked by supermarkets, and that's
one of them.

Another shows a toddler playing with a croissant, which
reveals that he wants to go to France.

Another says someone gets some reward every time someone
mentions some imported food item, so they trick people into
saying it.

I know. Many people today have gone vegetarian. In English, Google "party platter", then hit the 'images' button. [Ik weet. Veel mensen zijn tegenwoordig vegetariƫr geworden. In Engels, Google "party platter" en klik vervolgens op de knop 'images'.

Yes, I know, and so what?
My keyboard s deteriorating, and I don't spiillchuck.
I do reread, and do correct what I see, but I do miss some.

You may not have noticed,
but most readers here are highly competent readers,
and they can easily overlok some missing letters,

Yes, educating Americans does take lots of time,
but they will succeed, eventually.

Lidl is trying to get people to visit them
by having things that nobody else has.

Primitive. In these parts, long ago,
there was a very succesful commercial
with the known personality mis-pronouncing 'Paturain'.
(to be corrected by a chorus of know-betters)

It proved to be far more memorable
than the correct pronunciation could have been,

A few years ago, an external wired keyboard -- and mouse -- cost
me. IIRC, $12.99 at BestBuy.

Just curious, have you ever tried using a laptop
with an external keyboard?
(while sitting in an easy chair)

No, the laptop is on the desk in front of me and the keyboard
and mouse (to the left, even though I'm right-handed) are on
the pull-out shelf that was provided for when desktop computers
had external keyboards.

My laptop is fairly heavy and large for these days, because I
need the keypad, so putting it on a lap is awkward. (Also too
low for ergonomic effectiveness.)

Why? We now have handys for everything (that you offshore of the British Isles always talk about).

I'm shocked to see you slut-shaming your own furniture.

Howzzabout a sofa? I have a wireless keyboard+mouse, and at 6 feet
from the screen, I can still read the compose window (and recognize
word shapes in the smaller print of the other noosereeder windows). At
4 feet, I can read almost everything on the screen. At 8 feet, using
the HDMI output to the big screen TV makes it Too Easy.
