Thomas R. Donahue,born September 4th 1928,died February 18th 2023
according to the NY Times and others though the AFL-CIO,which he
served as executive assistant to the president(1973-79),
secretary-treasurer(1979-95),and president(1995) has yet to
post a press release, nor has the Service Employees International
Union where he rose to first vice president and mentored the man
who defeated him for election to a full term as AFL-CIO president,
John Sweeney(who died last year).

Former US Chamber of Commerce president Thomas J. Donohue is
still alive.

It's Monday and the AFL-CIO wrote a short one that ignores his SEIU work:
https://aflcio.org/press/releases/remembering-legendary-labor-leader-and-president-emeritus-afl-cio-tom-donahue
The SEIU pulled out of the AFL-CIO,which might have influenced
this omission, just as it might have rendered Sweeney ineligible
for reelection in 2009.

SEIU's press release page has nothing on Donahue, whose onetime
"first vice president" post apparently no longer exists there
with a "Secretary-Treasurer" listed after the President and
before five Executive Vice Presidents.

When Donahue ascended to AFL-CIO president,he was succeeded
as Secretary-Treasurer (also the #2 post there, think in terms
of chief administrative and financial officer) by Barbara
Easterling, who became the first woman in one of the top jobs.
The Sweeney slate, not wanting to appear sexist, were running on
a platform of creating a third top job and giving it to Linda
Chavez Thompson (Democratic activist and former AFSCME official,
not to be confused with Linda Chavez,Republican activist and
former AFT official),who had been Sweeney's second choice for
S-T behind Richard Trumka, who wound up succeeding Sweeney and
dying in office to be succeeded by incumbent Liz Shuler, who
had been the first elected, but second overall, woman S-T.
The AFL-CIO EVP job passed from Chavez-Thompson to Arlene
Holt Baker, who stopped being the highest ranked woman when
Shuler became S-T,and then to Tefere Gebre,an immigrant from
Ethiopia who left the post in advance of the convention at
which Shuler received a full term with Steelworkers vice
president Fred Redmond as S-T and the EVP duties were
folded into that position...the Donahue press release is
attributed to Shuler as president and Redmond as
secretary-treasurer.

Another affiliated obit from the Catholic Labor Network:

SEIU has still not deigned to issue a press release in his
memory, though he worked for their key Local 32B from 1949-57,
and their national office from 1960-67 and 1969-73.
