There's been a scandal here lately, where coal-mining companies have
been faking reports about the quality of their coal. Apparently the
testing laboratories had to keep two sets of books, one with the true
test results and the other with the results to be reported. Any
laboratory that refused to do this lost their contracts.

The story leaked because a whistle-blower told an independent
parliamentarian, but apparently it's been an open secret in the industry
for ages. One source said that it's been going on "since time in memoriam".

Interestingly, the above is not a mere malapropism but can be considered
an eggcorn, since, if the time referred to is "in memoriam", then it's dead (and
gone) and may therefore be impossible to remember, making the use of the
phrase somehow plausible in lieu of "immemorial".

I resolve that by referring to time immoral.

Speaking of Australian scandals, how did your last PM manage to
"secretly" make himself the ministers in charge of five departments?

He could not have done it without the cooperation of the Governor
General. Both Morrison (the ex-PM) and the GG claim that they thought
the other would make the appointments public. The GG might possibly be
right, given that Morrison has a history of lying.

The secret was well kept. Four of the five "real" ministers were unaware
that they had been undermined.

Now that a judicial enquiry has produced a scathing report, the present
government plans to move a censure motion. The opposition is criticising
this on the grounds that censure motions are only moved against
ministers. They are implying that the censure motion should have been
moved back when the appointments were secret.

Well, the second T**** impeachment came a few weeks too late.
Conviction would have prevented him from running a third time.
Or holding any office in the Federal government. (Like someone
would ever appoint him.) (Though if the House gets deadlocked
over Kevin McCarthy -- a few extreme rightwingers don't want him
-- they might go back to the idea of making T**** Speaker (doesn't
have to be a member of the House.)
