There are many people rabidly against Medicare Advantage plans. This guy
is selling fear of control and supplement plans.

I choose a Medicare Advantage PPO plan at no additional cost.
Traditional Medicare with its costly supplement plans make no sense for me.

SOMEBODY had to be in the bottom 10% of his graduating class, and those
doctors tend to join HMOs. In my decades of taking elderly relatives
(as well as myself and contemporaries) to doctors, I realize just how
valuable it is to be able to dump a turkey when you encounter one.

I haven't needed a GP for decades. I know when I need a specialist and
how to find one. The idea of having to wait a week or more for an
appointment with the GP who will tell you that you need to see the
orthodoc, with whom you have to wait several weeks for an appointment,
AND whom you might find to be a real turkey, is unacceptable.

I don't understand how any of this works.

I think I had insurance for the last few months of the McJob after the company sold.

I haven't been to the doctor since April 1992

Obviously prayer and fasting works well for you. Keep up the good work.

Just waiting for something to come along after there's nothing that can
be done about it?

I waited a couple years too long between colonoscopies. Then I needed a
big chunk of my colon removed. If I had done it sooner, they might have
been able to snip it out when they saw it. Damn lucky I did not wait any
longer.

Blood pressure or chemistry, lungs, cancers - all things that can be
going wrong without you knowing it, but detectable with routine screenings.

That's exactly what I am doing. A more passive form of suicide and not subject to additional punishment via the 72 hour hold.

I am very sorry to hear about your health woes.

I really get what you are saying.

But understand that -

I was making less than $20,000 a year into my 40's and thus health care was just not accessible to me. I mean it was eventually with Obamacare, which was basically an extortion payment because according to what I read I still couldn't afford to be sick. Not to mention missing work when every cent I make was going toward below market rent and living expenses.

Now a pricing arbitrage scheme that started in 2014 when I saw something that was like "Hey I can make some money off this and maybe do something fun this summer" turned into a million dollar plus enterprise by 2019 with six figures plus profit (2020 aside) but started to unravel late last year and now that most of the profit points have been closed by primary sellers I am wrapping things up.

But we are talking years straight of intensely working every waking moment with little real time idea of what I was making (til I added it up at the end of the year, 2017 I spent a month doing and redoing my math because I couldn't how much I made) and always cash poor but inventory rich with financial catastrophe always looming if anything went wrong. It was more akin to high stakes gambling then any sort of business. So there was just no time to research insurance and my mind was always racing so I just couldn't absorb what I was reading. And why take the time when that time could be spent making money. Hard to do Obamacare being income based when I had no idea what I was really making. Just pay the stupid fine and keep going.

But I have a nice nest egg.

So I can *afford* it I guess but paying thousands a month for insurance, and then when I inevitably forced into market priced housing, it will go quick. No I am not getting another minimum wage McJob. Ever.

I only have a 9th grade education with very low social functioning ability. And a bad back.

Also I do not have the friends, family or social support system necessary to withstand any major health issues. If illness befalls, I am pretty happy just dropping dead and having my distant nieces and nephew surprised when they see what they get. Everybody around me still thinks I am dead dawg dick poor and I am happy with that.

I think I might have something because 2006/2007 I suddenly felt "off" or different inside, so I stopped drinking and smoking weed. But I don't think that was it.

Better to take care of yourself and enjoy your earnings. Avoiding major
preventable problems can make the rest of your life a lot better.

If you are down to no earnings again, Obamacare may not cost you that
much. Look into it.

I am, but next year. Even winding down my business and dumping inventory and assets this year I still expect to turn a tidy profit.

Also I haven't been able to enjoy my earnings, 2020 was supposed to be my big travel year! Now I think WW3 is to preempt any possible European vacations.

2020-2021 was also a total demoralizing disaster on a personal level too. Like fuck this shit, better off dead whatever else I might have going for me.

Do you have fun things to do in your life? Sports, or other activities
that you get excited about doing. If not, get out and try something new.
Learning new things makes living worth while.

I hate sports. So much that I won't even touch the tickets and that's like 75% of the secondary market.

My attention span is fried

I like history but I have a hard time reading and nothing seems to absorb and it's not the kind of thing I can share with other people, it's like playing trivia games with myself where I give myself the easy questions but forget most of the answers.

I like going to concerts but doesn't really generate the level of excitement when I go every night.

Meeting new people was always fun and exciting but that came to a halt when Craiglist killed their personals section and I was never able to get the same kind of success on more traditional sites.

I would like to see if I can find one of the super skanky rapper chicks who has yet to gain any traction or interest and bankroll her career but I have no idea how to go about that.

I am in a PPO not a HMO. I can go directly to any specialist I want (in
or out of network) with no preapproval required.

People are against Medicare Advantage plans because of what they have
been told by others rather than doing their own research reading the
actual plan coverage documents.

Around here every MD is in one or more health care networks. I don't
know of any independent MDs.

I most certainly am in a Medicare Advantage plan. It is a Medicare
Advantage PPO plan. I can go directly to any specialist I want (in
or out of network) with no preapproval required.

My Medicare Advantage PPO plan has dental coverage. My dentist in out of
network and my plans pays his charges as if he was in the network. Only
cost the $20 copay for a $800 crown. Twice yearly checkups are fully
covered with zero copay.

What is your plan? Sounds too good to be true.

Who's the carrier? I'll go look.

Not the OP, but I have a United Healthcare Medicare Advantage plan
that is a PPO. This is in Oregon - there may be different plan options
in different states.

They have a number of plans in my zipcode, but the website provides no
on-line details about actual coverage and cost; I am unwilling to
'chat' or talk with a live person about this stuff (way too inefficient
in terms of time), so I guess I'll never know.

I'm sure it's deliberate -- if they laid this stuff out in
easy-to-understand form it would make it much too easy to compare the
offerings of various insurance companies.

Ultimately I found a list of their LA/California all-inclusive plans.
All referred to a "network of local doctors" and required referrals for
specialists. No.

Given the turkeys I've dealt with, I want to be able to choose my own
specialists and fire the turkeys as soon as they're identified. Just
being board-certified and a member of THE MOST REPUTABLE local
cardiology practice doesn't mean that you aren't going to kill (or
attempt to kill) a patient through laziness and misdiagnosis.

I found my Medicare Advantage PPO plan using this website (YMMV):

I looked there. I fed in the doctors that we currently use, and the
plan we have didn't show up -- possibly because it's no longer offered
by Blue Shield to new customers. Similar plans by other providers were
not that much less expensive.

Then you are not in a Medicare Advantage plan.

People who don't do that deserve whatever they get. If the plan offers
only certain doctors or medical groups, it behooves the potential
customer to check out their CVs and the hospital(s) at which they have
admitting privileges.

There's an independent cardiologist within walking distance. There are
a number of specialty group practices which are NOT part of health
networks. There are advantages to living where I do.
