I no longer take tests.

I only take the ones I make up. I test them on myself first. If I can pass them I know they're not good enough. I keep working at the tests till finally I construct one I can't pass. Then I know it's ready for the big boys, the scientists who are paying me to help them do research. Just kidding.. I do make up my own tests but I pass them all. I have never failed a test - any test. But like you I am done taking them. Unless I want to. A puzzle is ok. A quiz. But tests are different. I don't like being tested.. I get testy when people try to test me.

I took a lot of test going to college and even on my job for different things. Sometimes you need to be certified. Like a doctor who does heart surgery. But what difference does it make what grade he gets if you die anyway? Life is a pass or fail deal.

Think of all the dangerously inept assholes practicing in their field of so-called expertise on the simple basis of passing tests. It sucks. A test proves nothing. They can be cheated. Plus, as I said, I passed every test I ever took without ever doing homework or even caring about the subject matter. Passing a bunch of different tests on different levels of school results eventually in a bunch of inept know-nothings practicing in various field of professionalism like doctors and lawyers - but mostly doctors. Most of them know nothing. You have to be really sick or have something they're all familiar with for them to know anything. I thought of different ways of creating better tests but I don't think it can be done, not as we know tests today, the written or oral variety. What we really need are people who care. Like if you have a nice little company and you want to hire somebody, you don't go by his resume or how many tests he's passed - you simply invite the guy out for a cup of coffee and talk with him for an hour or so, and it doesn't even have to be about what you're hiring him for. Just talk to the guy and 'test' his ability to think and reason as well as his honesty. Some people can take such tests a bit far, as was the case with Henry Ford who would take prospective hirings out to eat and if they salted their food without tasting it he would not hire them. True or false I don't know, but I heard it. Also, it's a bit inflexible, that test. Still it at least implies that Ford cared about hiring the right people. Anybody can pass a test, especially if the test givers want them to.
